A Shiite follower who was arrested during a raid is suing a newspaper, a former director of the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) and the department itself for allegedly publishing a slanderous statement on the raid.

NONE In his suit, Mohd Kamilzuhairi Abd Aziz named the publisher and printer of the daily Utusan Malaysia and weekly newspaper Mingguan Malaysia , Utusan Melayu (Malaysia) Berhad, former Jais director Muhammad Khusrin Munawi and Jais as the defendants.

The suit was filed at the High Court on June 16. The media obtained a copy of the statement of claims today.

Earlier when the case was mentioned before him today, Justice VT Singham allowed the application by Mohd Kamilzuhairi, who was represented by counsel Mohamed Hanipa Maidin to amend the date of the article which was published from Dec 16, 2010 to Dec 17, 2010.

Justice Singham also fixed Oct 31 for a decision on the application by  Muhammad Khusrin and Jais to strike out the summons.

He also set Feb 20 and 21 next year to hear the case, subject to a decision to strike out the summons.
