YOURSAY 'Will our PM be there - as he was in 1987 when Umno Youth held a rally at the TPCA stadium in Kampung Baru?'
Don't fear Himpun, minister Jamil Khir tells PAS
Ferdtan:
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom, since when you have become a ‘compadre' of PAS?
Are you pleading for PAS to change their mind not to attend the Himpun? Is it because of the absence of PAS that the rally may fail? Why are you so concerned? Are you, or Umno, the de facto organisers?
Didn't you hear that PAS had made the decision not to attend, in line with the wishes of the organisers to remain apolitical. PAS, on top of that, mentioned that they were concerned with the religious tension that may arise.
As you are the government of the day, are you not concerned with the fallout that may turn ugly? Will there be placards condemning your imaginary enemies - like the one in 1987 (Operation Lalang)?
Will our PM be there - as he was in 1987 when Umno Youth held a rally at the TPCA stadium in Kampung Baru?
This is very strange: our world has turned topsy-turvy - our ruling government is trying to keep the Malaysians divided; while Pakatan Rakyat, on the other hand, is fighting an almost losing battle to unite Malaysians of all races and religions.
FairMind: This is exactly what the Umno conspirators want - the Malays to regard the non-Malays as enemies and vice versa; the Muslims to regard the Hindus, Christians and others as enemies.
We will be so busy fighting one another that we won't be united to fight our common enemy - corruption and the plunder of the country's wealth.
By pitting one race against another and one religion against another, Umno will be elected to rule the country yet again despite all the corruption and plundering.
Rick Teo: It's so easy for Umno lackeys to obtain a permit to have rally. Bersih couldn't get a permit for their rally and this rally - which is bordering on igniting a religious clash - is given a permit. Is this how Umno administers the country?
James Dean: Why is there a need for a anti-apostasy rally? Rally against who? Official statistics shows not a single Muslim has converted out of the religion.
This rally is against all non-Muslims in Malaysia, and it is a show of force by Umno to cow all non-Muslims.
Quigonbond: I thought the organisers said political parties are not invited. I guess since Umno is involved, it's becoming a political rally. Good.
It'll just sideline the non-Muslims and make the other moderate Muslims cringe. I say that's good news to Pakatan.
Abasir: Now that Unity Minister Koh Tsu Koon and Jamil Khir have openly endorsed/encouraged/backed this rally, we know the ‘dalang' (puppeteer) behind it is none other than Najib and his bunch of ‘win-at-all-costs' desperados.
This is the same bunch that was dead-set against the demonstration for free and fair elections, the same gang that loudly declared that demonstrations are not ‘our way of life', the same crooks who used the taxpayer-funded police to attack taxpayers.
Nik V: This is ethnocentrism revealing its ugly head. One can sense that this is all about hate, fear, provocation, dividing, instigating and everything negative in the guise of unity.
This is the product of 50 years under Umno's BN. Their leaders are always testing, instigating and pitting their own against everybody else while they watch from their ivory towers.
Ericomc: Kenapa pula seorang menteri pemerintah perlu buat komentar kalau himpunan berkenaan anjuran NGO.
Ruben: I thought the organisers of Himpun said that there is no political involvement and here we have a minister nonetheless supporting it.
So all this is really a big lie. Umno is definitely behind this. It sickens me that we have to resort to this. Distorting lies, hearsays and unbacked allegations, and in the process, dividing Malaysians.
Yet we tell the whole world that Malaysia is a true model of a multi-cultural and multi-religious country where its people live together in harmony and peace.
For sure, the people on the streets are indeed peaceful and united but when you bring in Umno with its gutter politics and immoral actions then we have a recipe for disaster.
I am now going on my knees to ask God to save our country and its people.
Peace Lover: As a Muslim, I don't see the relevance of this gathering. What is there the need "to gauge the unity among Muslims, particularly against the Christianising efforts on Aug 3"?
It is a fact that Muslims will be united if there is truth to the allegation of proselytisation. But there are many other ways to approach this matter. Wouldn't it be more reasonable to consult with the Council of Churches to ensure such thing, if true, doesn't occur again?
We have been living in peace all this while and this is another attempt to raise suspicion and animosity towards other religions.
