Penang PKR Youth today lodged a report with anti-corruption authorities against the cabinet minister, whose husband and children operate the troubled National Feedlot Corportation (NFC).

The report was against Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, who is accused of being fully responsible for the controversy surrounding the NFC.

Penang PKR Youth wing chief Amir Ghazali said there was an element of impropriety in the disbursement of a government loan for the project, particularly in the purchase of a RM10 million luxury condominium unit.

"We condemn the disbursement of the loan to the family members of Shahrizat ... such practices should not be continued and should be stopped immediately," Amir told a press conference outside the Penang office of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Amir said he and other PKR members involved in the police report was quizzed for over an hour by the MACC officers after they lodged the report.

He said they were also warned not to go public with their report as it was now covered by the Official Secrets Act 1972.

"But we told the officer that this case is an exception as the matter has been raised in Parliament and is no longer a secret," he added.

Amir said the issue was a matter of public interest and unless there was significant public pressure, the MACC would not take action.

Last week, PKR-linked NGO Jingga 13 lodged a report with the MACC in Putrajaya over the RM10 million condominium unit purchase, stating that this was misuse of the government loan.

The money was part of an RM81 million loan from the NFC to its sister company, National Livestock and Meats Corporation.
