VOXPOP 'As the DPM was the agriculture minister when the National Feedlot Corporation project was conceived, doesn't the buck stop there?'
Muhyiddin must explain Cowgate 'mess' to PAC
Rick Teo:
There is no doubt about it. Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin (then agriculture minister when the project was conceived in 2006) is solely responsible for disbursing this loan.
He should explain why the money was not used for the project as intended. He is not absolved of his responsibility to disburse the funds to a fellow minister's family, and the designated funds being used for private expenses.
If there is any abuse of the loan, it should be immediately recalled. The paramount concern is to protect taxpayers' money.
To use the money meant for the project on private investment and private expenditure is certainly criminal breach of trust.
Pakatan Rakyat should insist on Muhyiddin resolving this issue and recover the taxpayers' money. If not, Pakatan should use this issue to campaign in the next election. BN will surely fall on this issue alone.
Ksn: The PAC must summon the DPM and question him, no holds barred. They have the power, right? But do they have the spine for it except for the opposition members in the PAC?
Ashoka PJ: Once your goons dragged a cow's head in Shah Alam while others stood by and watched. Now the cows are coming back with vengeance to haunt all of you. Serve you right.
Livestock breeders: Give us RM250mil, too
Onyourtoes: The nincompoops in government surely can't see the distortions created in the economy each time they think they can give soft loans here, and grants there, to spur the development or production of certain goods or services in the economy.
This has nothing to do with national self-sufficiency, food security, and development of food industries or strategic industries.
It has everything to do with crony capitalism, siphoning of money from the state coffers and mega wastage and abuse.
Tailek: Head of the Selangor Ruminant Livestock Breeders Association, Samad Kassim, you will never get such a soft loan even for just RM1 million because you are not politically connected to Umno. This is how the Umno-ed BN government operates.
MfM: Let's wait for the government response to this suggestion. How was the NFC deemed more qualified than the local breeders (and they were already established mind you)?
Inspektor Klueso: These guys just don't get it. Only ‘princelings' of the country get preferential treatment.
Otherwise, join the ranks of the unwashed and untouchables like the rest of us. Grovel a lot, and maybe get some crumbs and crust droppings from the Umno.
Harvest shares tumble after Nazifuddin's resignation
Tailek: Some retail investors will never learn. They buy shares of listed companies depending on who is the director or shareholder without considering the company's fundamentals.
Harvest Court has no fundamentals to speak of and no profit record, yet its shares can go up 2,000-plus percent in market price in the space of a little over one month just because Najib's son, Mohd Nazifuddin Najib, is sitting on the board.
And now that Najib's son has resigned his directorship, the shares price plunges. Sorry to say so, but these investors really deserve what they get.
The Securities Commission should take the whole board of Harvest to task and investigate whether there has been insider trading and stock price manipulation.
Multi Racial: People never learn. Don't have to look far. Just look at those stocks held by Ling Liong Sik's son. Remember 'the youngest billionaire' then?
There are some irresponsible people who will push up the stock based on such news. Many unsuspecting investors, or rather punters, fell into the trap. It happened before and it is happening now.
Samuel Ng: Malaysians gripe about cronyism but rushed in like fools to buy shares when the PM's son is appointed a director. Don't blame anyone when you are burnt, blame your own greed.
Anonymous: The prime ministers of Malaysia all have children who are genius businessmen. With Dr Mahathir Mohamad, we have Mokhzani and Mukhriz.
With Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, we have Kamaluddin who controls Scomi. Now we have Nazifuddin, the 28-year-old son of Najib Abdul Razak.
CiViC: Nazifuddin is still holding on to his shares, but in the process, probably his Umno pals made a lot of money. This is a typical pre-election tactic to get cash for their campaigns.
