Umno a fossilised party, incapable of reform

YOURSAY 'To them, all national problems and solutions revolve around the trinity of race, religion and Malay royalty.'

Why does Umno fear DAP so?

your say Dingy: It's time for the rural Malays to realise that Umno have only enriched themselves since Independence and look where the rural Malays stand, compared to all these Umnoputras millionaires and billionaires.

The Malay youth who work in the cities must go back and convince their parents to vote for change. All scandals must be exposed to the rural folk in order to convince them that Umno leaders want to stay in power to enrich themselves further.

The BN government could give a RM250 million loan to a minister's family to buy two expensive condominiums, a luxury car and land in Putrajaya. The loan has no repayment schedule, which means repayment need not be made.

Can the rural Malays get a RM100,000 loan from the government for them to farm or rear cattle? All Malay entrepreneurs must demand a similar soft loan from the government or face the consequences of being voted out.

Swipenter: Umno has no idea how to deal with issues confronting the nation. All they can think of is stirring issues of race, religion and lately the Malay monarchy in order to demonise others (non-Malays) to win votes and hopefully any election.

I agreed with the writer, Terence Netto, that Umno thinks PAS and PKR are beatable for no reason other than these two parties are Malay-dominated political parties. Umno simply thinks they can absorb them into their fold and, voila , problems solved.

This just shows that Umno cannot see and think beyond race and religion. To them, all national problems and solutions revolve around the trinity of race, religion and Malay royalty. So at best they come out with warped and half-baked solutions to issues confronting our country.

Maybe many Malays are conditioned to think and react like that after decades of brainwashing by Umno. Umno is a fossilised party - it's incapable of change and reform.

Onyourtoes: I do not know when Malaysians will ever realise and accept that this country should be governed by people with the best ideas, able to create value, are competent in managing resources and with honesty and integrity.

Race and religion play no part, and should never do. I know it is wishful thinking, but do we have a better model?

Black Mamba: The ruling government is again playing the racial and religious card.

Let it be known there are two types of politicians - the corrupt ones who are in Umno, MCA and MIC and the lesser coalition parties, while the good principled Malays, Chinese, Indians and the east Malaysian politicians are in PAS, PKR and DAP.

Come the next election, if the constituency race is between Umno and PAS, I'll vote for PAS. If it's between MCA and DAP, I'll vote for DAP and if it's a contest between Gerakan and PKR, I'll bet my vote on PKR.

The issues of Malaysian politics are not of race and religion as always made up by Umno. The real issues are corruption, cronyism and scandals.

If a leader from PAS becomes the PM, we Malaysians have no issues as we can rest assured of no leakages of the national coffers, such as EPF (Employees Provident Fund) and Petronas, and we can sleep better knowing the country is finally in good hands.

Robert Low: Umno is trying to play the racial card to get the support of the Malays. They are trying to instigate fear that the DAP (Chinese) will control the country if BN loses in the coming election.

My THOR: Despite several attempts to entice DAP leaders with lucrative offer, they stood firm to their principles.

LGE (Lim Guan Eng) had proven to the Malay community by defending an underage Malay girl who was involved with an Umno leader in Malacca. Guan Eng ended up in prison for doing so.

In Penang, LGE had plugged most of the loopholes and stopped the abuse by Umno through DAP CAT (competency, accountability and transparency) government. Many Malays benefitted compared to only a handful during Umno-BN's reign.

The DAP leaders had proven their worth as leaders of all races after undergoing all sort of abuse, threat, detention and offer of monetary gain. Umno leaders, have you proven to be fair and reliable to all races compared to DAP?

Anonymous: I have spoken to a lot of my moderate and educated Malay friends in Penang. Most, if not all of them, acknowledge that Guan Eng is doing a good job in that state.

There is no tinge of truth in the three accusations which Muhyiddin has levelled at DAP in Penang (or for that matter in any state).

I've not come across open antagonism by the DAP against the Malay race, religion or royalty. So, this is just empty rhetoric reserved for empty heads.

Anonymous_3e4b: By eliminating corruption in the Pakatan Rakyat-dominated states, it translate into more savings to be given to the rakyat in the forms of 'social responsibility programmes'.

The rakyat will be given family-related grants, better amenities and a cleaner environment. If the whole country is saved from corruptible practices, it also translate into a better Malaysia for all Malaysian in general and to the 60 percent bumiputeras in particular.

That is why DAP, being a matured and time-tested party, is so much feared by Umno.

Change Agent: DAP has its own challenges but the leaders have the tenacity to endure the pains and injustice.

LGE himself has made personal sacrifice. What he has contributed for Penang is what Pakatan can do for rest of the nation. If only citizens can see the difference, we will get there. We can only hope those Umno will dive for cover when that happens.

Multi Racial: Five decades from now, standing in front of a group of multiracial students is a Malay history professor who is about to give a speech.

He is there not because of this skin colour nor his religion. He is there on merit and is respected by all his peers, colleagues and students. He speaks with a crystal clear tone, supported by the slides projected on a large screen behind him.

He begins: "50 years ago, our parents and grandparents made an important decision. We are the beneficiaries of their decision and without them, God knows what would have happened to this country.

"Today I stand in front of you with great pride. Malaysia is a developed country because we, the Malays, changed our mindset - our parents and grandparents did what no others have done before them.

"They voted for change and they voted for Pakatan. As a result, Malaysia witnessed the fall of BN, and this led to the greatest transformation this nation had ever seen."
