Lynas plant a done deal from the start

YOURSAY 'If it's not good enough for Australia, it shouldn't be good enough for any other place on earth.'

Lynas green light sparks fresh protest

your say Onyourtoes: Why do you think the government is so thick on public opposition to the Lynas plant?

Do you really think the government is not aware of the unhappiness and concerns of the people? Do you think the government is not aware that there may be health and safety issues?

If the government is by the people, for the people and of the people, why do you think the government is so adamant in wanting this project? It is not the ‘government in general' we are talking about here.

It is the ‘who' in the government who is interested in this project regardless of the consequences it may inflict on the people, or the wrath that it may cause the BN government.

The ‘who' in the government has probably compromised his position. How does one make correct decisions when money has already changed hand? The transaction must be delivered.

Manjit Bhatia: These protests against Lynas are very worthwhile. The Lynas project should never have been given the green light in the first place, let alone a temporary licence by the Umno-BN regime.

What's really galling is that the regime went ahead with the latter despite Lynas failing to provide all of the mandatory guarantees needed.

Worse, though: were there any public consultations about the project to start with? I feel the protests at Lynas aren't big enough to put sufficient political pressure on the company to reconsider its operations.

Only 2,000 protestors were present. And why only protest at the plant's site? I'd be calling on all Malaysians against the project to gather at Putrajaya to give the regime hell. Fry the lot and send Lynas packing for good.

If it's not good enough for Australia, it shouldn't be good enough for any other place on earth.

If the bulk of Malaysians do not join their Lynas protestors and stop the project dead in its tracks and soon, then you've lost the chance forever - unless Pakatan Rakyat wins government and scuttles the project entirely.

Although Malaysians have to cop a huge compensation bill to Lynas, it'll be worth it. Just wear the fiscal pain for a decade.

Pemerhati: This is the price Malaysians pay for electing corrupt and greedy Umno thieves as their leaders.

They fool the people by pretending to look after their interests and get their votes from the majority Malays through their racist slogans like ‘untuk bangsa, agama dan negara' (for race, religion and country).

Once in power they steal as much money as they can through corrupt deals and use the millions or billions stolen ‘untuk diri-sendiri, keluarga dan saudara-mara' (for self, family and relatives).

Any fool can easily see that Lynas could have easily built the plant near to where they were mining the raw material in Australia, but the relatively clean government there did not allow the company to endanger its citizens by dumping their dangerous wastes there.

But they easily overcame that hurdle by bribing the very corrupt government leaders in Malaysia because these Umno leaders, unlike the Australian leaders, are not bothered if the people‘s lives are endangered as long as they can make some easy money from Lynas.

Keturunan Malaysia : Now, it is about breaking up China's monopoly and containing soaring prices. Well, this is one monopoly China can keep. It is fine with us.

Malaysia can't save the world, can we? By the way, if waste disposal is so safe and environmentally friendly, why don't Lynas do it in Australia?

Why shift all the way here - to help us create employment? I thought we already have full employment.

CiViC: The concern now is exposing our people, our land to radioactive waste, radiation and pollution. This is not the people's needs.

Thousands of people have protested, and still the dirty corrupt BN government pushes it through.

And please don't start with economic gains and such bull, there are no gains here since Lynas needs not pay tax, and the guarantee they have posted is not even enough to clean the plant itself, what more pollution beyond that.

Ismail Mokhtar: MCA chief Chua Soi Lek, you are a medical doctor. I am a medical doctor, too. We both know how destructive and lethal radioactive industries are.

Please say something, stop this madness now. I plead to you - stop this potential mass killing. Money isn't everything.

As a doctor, how can you stand idly by while they kill our children and our children's children?
