Home minister is effectively telling us to 'fly kite'

YOURSAY 'In which country in this world the rakyat has to investigate and prove the bad guys are guilty?'

Hisham: Prove 'Copgate', then we can act

your say AkuDahUbah: These allegation against former inspector-general of police Musa Hassan and attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail are monumental and far reaching in their implications.

In any other democracy, a mere hint of such impropriety involving these institutions will have set off in motion a full scale and widespread inquiry as to the truth of these serious allegation.

To have these charges levied by a former senior official of the police force gives it even more import and urgency. Yet our honourable home minister sees fit to brush it aside without even giving it a modicum of consideration.

He, who held a news conference defending the cow's head fiasco's perpetrators, should at least give valid reasons for his dismissive retort.

The rakyat expect and demand more from your high office, so please come off your high horse and do your duty to your nation, your people and your legacy.

Armageddon: What we expect to hear from Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein is, "I will get the police to investigate or I will get MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) to investigate or I will propose to cabinet to form a RCI (royal commission of inquiry)."

Those would be more appropriate remarks from a minister who is eager to see a clean government. Asking us to prove it ourselves without any help from people in authority is as good as telling us to go and fly kites.

2Malaysia: Prove it? You must be joking. Are you blind? All the statutory declarations, affidavits and confessions count for nothing?

Do you really think that we, the public, would be duped by you? If you are sincere, charge them in court. Then produce all the evidence that has already been presented everywhere online.

Cintai Negara: No wonder this so-called minister has to run away from his constituency and potentially stand in Kota Tinggi for the upcoming GE13.

With a reply like this, it only mean a few things. Even with all the evidence and allegations (strong allegations), this so-called minister is asking for proof.

Any minister in a developed country would be asking all the parties involved to step aside until a complete and impartial investigation is conducted and completed. Not this minister.

He does not know what is a reasonable suspicion. But, looking around the country, when there is a slight whisper of any corruption or misuse of power on the part of the opposition, all hell would break loose and the mighty MACC and the mighty police will swing into action without any prodding.

Teoh Beng Hock's case is a classic example. When it comes to the VIPs, the rakyat will need to ‘prove it' or else there is no case. Everyone with an open eye and mind can see the sandiwara in full.

Ksn: A serious accusation has been made against the ex-IGP and the AG - the two individuals holding the highest posts in the civil service to uphold law and order and to bring the criminals to book.

Do you Hisham understand the seriousness of the accusations? It is now left to the government, in particular the home minister, to investigate the matter fully to clear the names of the two if the charges are not true.

If not true, those making the accusations should be severely punished. But if those accusations are true, those two named and those behind the cover-up, if any, should be even more severely punished.

The question now is who will conduct the investigations as both the agencies linked to these two individuals are not the right groups to investigate for fear of being prejudiced.

Hence, the reason why the need for an independent body to be appointed for that purpose, which is the proper thing to do. Instead of that, you are asking others to prove the accusations. How childish.

Make Sense: I'm wondering now, who are the bad guys? In which country in this world the rakyat have to investigate and prove the bad guys are guilty?

If the rakyat are to do this, then why we need the police, MACC and most importantly, the government?

Shouldn't Hisham be directing the police to investigate instead of asking others to prove it to him? If he doesn't know how to do his job, he might as well quit.

20121221Disaster: When it is a case not related to their gang, they will go all out to find the so-called evidence.

Without waiting, they will make their own police reports and start the so-called investigations/harassment/intimidation, etc. When it is related to their own gang, you must make the reports first.

You must also to provide evidence and proof. Otherwise, there is no case.

Cala: It is foolish of Hisham to throw a challenge at those who can show proof of collusion between ex-IGP Musa Hassan, attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail and kingpin Goh Cheng Poh, before he acts.

North (1990) has argued that the difference between First World and Third World states lies in the nature of its institutions.

Due to their lawlessness, unequal protection of law to the people, and low set of moral standards, the regimes across Third World are deemed less democratic, and hence have less respect for human rights.

As a consequence, regimes in Third World must work triply hard to earn some semblance of respect each time they want to be seen as sincere to fight crimes for example. Likewise, Hisham's sincerity is put under test as in this case.

Realising that corruption in high places is the result of teamwork, any credible investigation must involve an independent third party - not police, not the AG and not officers of the serving regime.

Swkdayaks: I hope former top cops Ramli Yusof, Mat Zain Ibrahim and those police officers who were victimised will courageously stand up and be counted and produce the proof Hisham has challenged them to produce.

I also hope when they produce their evidence, they will do it publicly so that all Malaysians can see, compare, judge and decide, especially when we go to vote in this coming 13th GE.

Now the battle lines between BN and Pakatan Rakyat is slowly getting clearer. Definitely we, the voters, would not want to vote for thieves and robbers to be our next leaders.

Chuath: I guess being 'proactive' or 'taking initiative' is not one of Hisham's competencies.
