Hisham, MACC can't be investigating itself

YOURSAY 'How can the MACC investigate when the Anti-Corruption Agency was also named by CCID. Why beat around the bush? Just form the tribunal.'

Let MACC investigate Copgate, says Hisham

your say Kairos: Honestly, I don't care who investigates as long as it is impartial and just. If the home minister feels that the MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) is the right agency to investigate, so be it. Just order them to start.

All that the rakyat is interested in is that the whole truth is revealed. If there has been an abuse of executive powers to cover up the collusion between the ex-IGP (inspector-general of police) and the AG (attorney-general) with the underworld, then heads must roll.

If not, the credibility of our law enforcement officers will be brought to question. If Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein is sincere, then let MACC begin the investigation immediately.

Ksn: Hisham, do you mean to say that the MACC is independent or more independent and impartial than the police?

But this is a case of abuse of power by the top two officers of the two most important public institutions in the country. How come MACC is asked to investigate as it not corruption the duo are accused of?

An independent tribunal is the right and proper forum for this case, is it not? By the way, MACC still needs to get clearance from the AG to prosecute, right? See how weak your argument is?

Anonymous: How can the MACC investigate when the ACA (Anti-Corruption Agency) was also named by the CCID (Commercial Crimes Investigation Department).

Why beat around the bush? Just form the tribunal.

Anonymous2: They have use ACA to frame the police officers, now they want to use MACC to investigate them. No way.

Whichever way it is, it's not going to be good. Only a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) will make the difference.

Joker: The problem is, the opposition and the rakyat do not hold the MACC in higher esteem than the police. In fact, Malaysians simply do not trust government agencies anymore.

The best alternative is to have a royal commission. How sincere the government is in this investigation can be seen from how wide the scope of the royal commission's investigation will be.

Judging from past experience and the way Hishammuddin has been pussyfooting the whole issue, Malaysians would not be holding their breath.

Whatsup : Another fine example of them and us, the poor rakyat. We can't never get a straight answers from these immoral and incompetent goons.

Of course, MACC is not capable. They can only catch small fry, not big fat rich ferocious sharks.

Just form a tribunal if you are sincere, otherwise, cut the crap. If MACC investigates, we'll definitely be told of their innocence and their name cleared, and those testifying will be punished.

Onyourtoes: What kind of statement is this: "If they want an investigation, we can investigate. But the proper agency to do so is the MACC"?

No, you are wrong, home minister. Who are "they"? You order an investigation not based on what others said. You investigate based on the merit and the seriousness of the accusations.

Similarly you don't get to decide which agency to investigate. It must be based on the authority and job scope of the agency concerned.

If the nature of offence is within the jurisdiction of the police, you don't ask MACC. What kind of stupid home minister are you?

James1067: How is an agency involved going to investigate its own crimes.

It looks like this is another Cowgate scandal where they kept twisting and turning until they found a rope to hang themselves. So just for damage control, they were forced to charge the National Feedlot Corporation chairman.

There are respected people, not only in the police force but retired senior police officers, who are willing to come forward. They are willing to risk their lives to reveal the truth - this should put all their bosses to shame.

Hello: MACC had been accused of involvement of Copgate. It was directed by the AG to intervene on the investigation of Tengku Goh and his illegal activities and his connection with the then IGP.

As a result, they seized the files from CCID. How then can MACC be now investigate Copgate? It's like asking a criminal suspect to probe his alleged criminal activities.

Vijay47: Home Minister, why did you suddenly agree to "investigate"? No fresh evidence nor the 'proof' you demanded had been tendered, nothing has really changed.

Of course, the voices had grown much louder and a wider range of groups, not just the opposition, have been pressing for a possibly scandalous relationship to be scrutinised. But you arrogantly stubbornly refused to listen.

So why the fresh stance now? You could have preserved a little of your almost non-existent image and honour if you had done the done thing right from the start.

You could have just said, "Yes, since it involves two of our highest officers, we must look into the allegations."

And now you want the MACC of all people to investigate the AG and former IGP. Can't you get anything right? You may as well get the AG's wife to head the committee.

Then again, we could still hope that if MACC takes charge, the enquiry may be conducted on their 14th Floor.

Anonymous: How about we let the AG investigate ex-IGP Musa Hassan and Musa investigate the AG or maybe Tengku Goh investigate both of them. That should do it.
