FREE VOXPOP 'You are the embodiment of unconditional love, patience, forbearance and faithfulness. I pray that you will find peace in your heart at this moment of grief.'

Disabled son of rare earth plant worker dies

vox populi small thumbnail GoneBananas: Corrupt regimes tend to favour mega-projects involving hundreds of millions or billions - so they invariably prefer to hobnob and play footsy with high-end capitalists, so they too can get their share of the goodies.

They will hire spin doctors to paint a rosy picture of their polluting industries and call it ‘development'.

Meanwhile, ordinary folks (who constitute the 99 percent) are given RM500 handouts or hampers full of consumer products as meagre consolation - and occasionally, a new TV channel to keep them stupid and docile.

If you don't like this scenario, stand up and be counted. Vote BN out. Don't let people like former Asian Rare Earth labourer Lai Kwan suffer over and over again, generation after generation.

Cala: In the first place, is the regime evil? A good man will do good things for the society. A bad man, no matter how he tries, will end up harming the society in which he lives.

Likewise, when a regime is composed of evil men collectively, you will get the Mitsubishi kind of radioactive waste in Perak and Lynas in Kuantan.

How do you describe a regime which does not care for the welfare of the people?

Changeagent: Madam Lai Kwan, Kok Leong will be telling his new friends and angels in heaven that you have been an exemplary mother during his 29 years here on earth.

You are the embodiment of unconditional love, patience, forbearance and faithfulness. I pray that you will find peace in your heart at this moment of grief.

Anonymous: Kok Leong has gone back to his home. He will definitely be at peace. We wish that the loved ones accept that finally we will all be together, in a better place, as where Kok Leong is now.

Anonymous: My sincere admiration for a brave mother who stood by her disabled son. Let her courage be the beacon of light to those who are fighting Umno, which approved the setting-up of the Lynas rare earth plant.

Ipoh2: My deepest condolences to the family, especially Lai Kwan. May Kok Leong's soul rest in peace.

An innocent man has to die to pay for someone's greed, and I hope his death is not in vain - he wakes us up to the struggle of protecting the earth from the pollution of radioactive waste.

Ferdtan: The Grim Reaper, the Angel of Death, now looks east.

'Probe PM's son for share price manipulation'

Chikadee: Even someone with no background on buying and selling shares could see something was amiss when money was amassed in a very peculiar situation - this is nothing but manipulation to gain some extra money.

Anonymous #32993250: What is PM Najib Razak's son Nazifuddin's source of income?

Where did he get this amount of money to manipulate the market? Has he paid income tax or is all this waived?

I will not ask MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) to investigate, as we know they have many small cases to handle.

Tailek: DAP MP Tony Pua, I am happy that you bring this up even if it is to educate readers who are not aware of these two share manipulation fiascos.

The fact of the matter is that these cases will never be investigated and even if they are, it's more than likely no further action will be taken.

The Securities Commission answers to the finance minister. Guess who he is. And guess who his son is - the very person involved in these two cases.

The former SC chairperson's own hubby was mentioned in the E&O deal and nothing happened. So don't hold your breath waiting for SC to investigate the PM's son.

The young man has lost all credibility as far as serious business and investing is concerned. This is using his grand name to make a quick buck.

CS Tan: Classic case of "pump and dump".

Onyourtoes: With due respect Tony Pua, I think we should let those nincompoop market traders to suffer the ill-consequences of their own action.

Anyway, what do you expect the SC to do? They can't even take care of their own abuse and you expect them to investigate PM's son.

What happened to the E&O case? The SC even wanted to challenge the judge hearing the case. Why are they so afraid?

Then you look at MAS-AirAsia deal. Are you saying they had the deal done without looking at the implications and the detailed working arrangements?

So few months down the road, they say it is not working, and they are now going to abort the deal.

Or is it because they have made their pile through insider trading, and now it is time to revert to status quo and look elsewhere for another deal.

When a government has lost its moral authority, everyone is making money, you can't stop them. No way.
