Race, religion and now the royalty card

YOURSAY 'Umno and Perkasa not only make use of race and religion but now also royalty just to gain back support from the Malays.'

'Pakatan could push for M'sia to be a republic'

your say Anonyxyz: Malaysia is already the laughing stock for many absurd events in the country but accusing MPs of being disloyal to the king and trying to turn the country into a republic by just smiling during the king's installation is beyond belief.

Not Confused: This is a joke, right? It has to be a very twisted mind to create a link between the events before, during or after the installation of the Agong and a suggestion that Pakatan Rakyat would turn Malaysia into a republic. I just cannot fathom how Perkasa thinks.

They are a racist, fundamentalist right-wing organisation that has no credibility at all with the majority of the well-meaning rakyat, including Malays.

Gerard Lourdesamy: This is rubbish coming from Perkasa. The Pakatan policy document not only upholds and defends the entrenched constitutional position of the Malay rulers but also guarantees that their rights, privileges, honours, dignity and prerogatives, will be preserved and protected.

The monarchy in Malaysia cannot be abolished even with a two-thirds majority in Parliament unless the rulers themselves consent. It will take a political and social revolution to unseat the rulers. This will never happen in the foreseeable future.

Pakatan should go a step further and consider restoring the powers, privileges and prerogatives of the rulers to the pre-1983 and pre-1992 position under the federal and state constitutions when Umno/BN stripped the rulers of these powers and prerogatives in a campaign of vilification and denigration of the rulers in public and through the media.

The monarchy itself must also change and become more representative of the people and not defend vested interests.

KAI: Perkasa should not drag the royalty into politics for their own selfish purposes. This act itself is tantamount to showing disrespect to royalty.

Royalty does not take sides. If Perkasa feels Pakatan MPs have indeed behaved rudely, by all means please explain to the rakyat what is it that the MPs have done that is deemed so rude.

Let the people judge for themselves and do the right thing in the coming general elections. To say that Pakatan will turn the country into a republic is so childish and is beneath even third world politics.

My advice to Perkasa is - please have some class when making statements, otherwise just shut up.

TrueMalaysian: Perkasa, on April 29, please get Utusan Malaysia to reprint what former premier Dr Mohamad Mahathir had said about the institution of monarchy and distribute them at the rally.

I will join your rally if you dare do that.

Metallic Black: Perkasa you are the biggest troublemaker in this peaceful Malaysia. We love the country, we love all our sultans and we love our kings.

The more you talk nonsense, the more Malaysians will not respect and support your organisation. You are just a bunch of racists, supported by Umno.

AnonymousA: Umno and Perkasa not only make use of race and religion but now also royalty just to gain back support from the Malays.

YF: The issue has never been about royalty. It has everything to do about money. How much money was pocketed for the new istana (palace) and other projects under the guise of royalty?

Umno's Skim Cepat Kaya has always been the main concern here, is it not, Perkasa?

Geronimo: These Perkasa fellas are so daft. When Mahathir removed the powers of the royalties, that was tantamount to high treason already.

Mahathir in reality, then, without the Malays knowing the implication of such an act, is no longer the prime minister but the president of Malaysia.

The royalties are all shoved to the back and told to be on their best behaviour. So as not to alarm the Malay populace, the institution will not be dismantled.

In good old England, Mahathir's callous act against the king would have meant his head, just like Oliver Cromwell. Now the question is, where were these so-called righteous Malays then.

Mr KJ John: Why not say that PKR will turn us into a communist state and reinstate Chin Peng as the new PM. Come on Perkasa; you have never read the federal constitution.

Multi Racial: Perkasa is a racist party which has run out of support and issues and now has become the defender of rulers.

Our constitution has made it very clear that this country is a constitutional monarchy. Please do not blow a small matter into a national issue.

FairMind: Looking at the huge disparity of how the majority of poor Malaysians have to eke out a living just to put food on the table and the excessive lavishness of the royalties.

I won't be too sure if the majority prefers the country to remain as it is, when push comes to shove.

Dingy: Let's see if the rakyat support Perkasa in their rally on 29 April. Compare it with the sit-in protest organised by Bersih 3.0.

Don't expect the mainstream media to report on Bersih 3.0. Expect it to report on Perkasa rally instead.

2zzzxxx: A party bankrupt of ideas, will use sensitive issues - race and religion, to stir up the anger of the people. Sadly for the Umno racist government, the rakyat of today are not as dumb as them.

The society today is well-informed and they no longer read Umno's newspapers.

Wira: When Umno spinners go all out, we know the time to a general election is near.

They only need to peak their performance for the next few weeks, until the conclusion of the election, then they would have the next five years wrapped up. It's happy days are here again for those Umno and BN thieves.

We are already at 55 percent of our GDP on domestic debts which ballooned over the past six years, especially the last three. If BN gets their two-thirds, they would be able to change the constitutional limitation on that 55 percent of GDP with impunity.

Those free money they gave in the run-up to the next general election will, together with the stolen money, come back to haunt us.

Change the government in GE14? By then it may be too late.
