Gov't to quash attempts to disrupt public order, vows PM

your say LittleGiant: Peaceful rallies and gatherings are conducted by people to draw the attention of the government to their woes and to ask the government's firm action on obvious flaws and inefficiencies in the government's administration.

It is downright absurd if the PM thinks that it is disruption to public order, only when rallies and gatherings are not in favour of the government.

What about traders and ex-army personnel making a mockery of themselves in front of Bersih co-chairperson S Ambiga's house and bikers making a nuisance in front of PKR deputy president Azmin Ali's house? Didn't they disrupt public order?

What about the hooligan and thuggish behaviour of BN members bulldozing their way into ceramah and meetings of PKR, PAS and DAP, causing injuries and bringing misery to innocent participants? Didn't they disrupt public order?

I suppose Umno-BN members going around behaving like thugs disturbing public peace and harmony is acceptable to the PM and their actions are in no way "disruption to public order".

!Can: If Najib is true to what he said and what is wanted for the country, he must listen to the majority voice. He will see this at GE13 and respect the decision.

We pray and want him to respect the majority's decision and he must declare sincerely that whatever outcome is the result of GE13, he and BN will abide by the voters' choice.

There shall be no uncalled for and untoward dirty acts to disrupt peace in our country. We love Malaysia even if we want a change of government.

Disgusted: This is similar to the threat/statement that Abdullah Ahmad Badawi made before 12th GE - that he does not like to be challenge or something like "saya pantang di cabar" to the rakyat.

See what the rakyat did to him and Umno at the general election and where he is now. It looks like Najib has not learnt from his predecessor's mistakes.

He will only learn after the rakyat teach him a lesson at 13th GE. If he wants to play hardball with the rakyat, the rakyat will serve an ace to him.

Doc: It looks like PM Najib is taking Umno down the road of famous dictators like Hosni Mubarak of Egypt, Muammar Gaddafi of Libya and Ali Abdullah Saleh of Yemen.

All threaten harsh action on public protest against their rule. Did that deter the people in those countries from rebelling against their unjust and dictatorial rule? The answer is no!

All were overthrown in the famous Arab spring of 2011. Mubarak has been handed a life imprisonment sentence, Salleh was forced in exile by his people and Gaddafi, well, we all know what happen to him.

Najib has also failed to see the writing on the wall.

Mat Malaysia: Najib, you are the longest serving unelected prime minister ever in office in this country. So do the right thing and call elections now.

Then accept what the majority want. And if the majority don't want you and your gang of thugs around anymore, accept that gracefully.

In the meantime, please don't make yourself look more stupid than you already are by making idiotic statements because this just shows how shallow your thought process actually is.

Kairos: Najib is out of touch with the feelings of the rakyat and he has read the situation wrongly.

The common people involved in the protest are peace loving and loyal citizens of the country. We are not bent on creating public disorder nor are we even anti-government. We are just asking for a clean, just and a fair election. What is so wrong with that?

Why are the people who support such a valid cause branded as anti-government? Doesn't the government want free and fair elections too?

Why come down so hard and be so high-handed in suppressing the voices behind this call for justice and transparency in the country? Why treat the common defenseless rakyat as criminals?

Kee Thuan Chye: I take it that these are Najib's very own words: "The welfare and prosperity of the people is the highest goal of the government...

"This means, we cannot afford to let the most important foundation of democracy, that is, the superiority of majority, be destroyed by those who want to uphold the misplaced law of the jungle by thinking that the loudest, most cunning and most violent, as the most capable and truthful.

"This course of action and thinking must be rejected in the strongest terms."

If so, why has he remained silent every time thugs attack students, opposition figures, people who gather at forums? A case of ‘cakap tak serupa bikin'? At this rate, who can trust him?

Moontime: What a remarkable statement coming from the PM. He must have practiced a lot before delivering his speech with a straight face. Being a hypocrite must be second nature to this man.

Who are the so-called agent provocateurs and disturbance creators in public gatherings of late?

Your ‘sifu' have mentioned about violence in the streets in case Pakatan Rakyat loses the election. What rubbish!

They have lost many times and still able to come back and fight another day. It is your party that tend to lose everything and is prone to violence, thuggery and moronic gestures to the highest degree.

I say this with conviction because I know from history that Umno-BN are sore losers. We Malaysians are peace-loving people and condemn those involved in acts of intimidation.

Can you, dear PM, reassure us that your party goons will not resort to violence if (and there is a high possibility here) your party loses in the GE? I honestly don't think so.

Absolom: Nice speech by the PM. Just out of curiosity, when is the government going to 'act firmly without compromise' against all those who disrupted public order, caused injury and damaged property at the opposition ceramah?

And how is the welfare and prosperity of the people made better by misallocation (to put it mildly) of the nation's money?

How does overpaying or skimming off the top in government procurement improve the quality of life of the common man in the street?

As we see it, the average Malaysian seem to have to work harder and harder, and fighting a losing battle, trying to sustain the same quality of life, while a chosen few rent-seeking business magnates, flaunt their Lamborghinis and obscene wealth.

By the way, the phrase "be destroyed by those who want to uphold the misplaced law of the jungle by thinking that the loudest, most cunning and most violent" eerily brings back to memory an unfortunate person who got killed, blown up, and for whose death, the motives don't count. I wonder who wrote this speech.

Opah: So assembling on the streets to ask for clean and fair elections is a threat to national security but selling Malaysia's defence secrets to the French is not? Truly things are completely upside down in Najib's world!

Good Men: Najib said a healthy national dialogue should always be encouraged as differences of opinion could be channelled constructively to the people and the country.

Okay, here is your opportunity - have a public debate with the opposition leader, let's have this national dialogue.
