According to Sin Chew Daily , Road Transport Department (RTD) director-general Solah Mat Hassan told reporters yesterday in Batu Pahat, Johor, that his officers have not received any reply.
However, the RTD will not set any deadline for a response from Liow.
Earlier, Solah had told the media that Liow has three options - accept the offer free of charge in line with his ministerial status, pay the bidding price of RM24,200, or reject the number-plate.
Liow has been panned for failing to answer reporters' questions as to who had paid the bid for the number-plate, which he had claimed was for his new official car.
The minister had initially claimed that he did not know the value of the bid, saying he had left the matter in an officer’s hands.
He also failed to give a convincing answer on the need to bid for the number, saying that his grandfather is using the same number. At the same time, he claimed to be "okay with any number".
Liow later revealed that he had received word from the RTD that he need not pay the bidding price, as he is entitled to a "free" number-plate .
He then blamed the RTD for publishing his name as successful bidder, claiming that he was only exercising his option as a cabinet minister to obtain one preferred number without charge, and that he had not submitted the RM24,200 winning bid.
