The mother of Daniyar Nazarbayev, who is Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s future son-in-law, has denied allegations against her son, dismissing them as “absurd” and political manipulation.

“My husband and I are unaware of who is actually behind these absurd claims and accusations.

“This is a private family matter which has been manipulated and exploited by parties with political interests,” Maira Nazarbayev was reported saying in a statement through her public relations spokesperson.

NONE Najib’s future in-laws hit the spotlight this week when court documents filed in the Manhattan Supreme Court in New York claimed that Daniyar had conned his stepfather Bolat Nazarbayev out of a US$20 million (RM62 million) condominium unit.

Also revealed was that Daniyar had allegedly forged his educational records to gain entry to Columbia University.

Maira ( above left, with Bolat ) described the allegations as “completely untrue” and completely unsubstantiated.

“My husband Bolat and I remain committed to our children, and will resolve this matter privately. We are proud of all our children.

“I have a pre-planned family vacation in Europe over the next few weeks and will spend this quiet time with my family and loved ones,” said Maira.

Despite court documents filed by Bolat that state his marriage to Maira had been annulled after he had discovered his then wife was wanted by Interpol, Maira in her statement continued to refer to him as her husband.

In a New York Post report yesterday, Maira also denied the claims of divorce.

“There’s never been a day when I’ve had a fight with my husband.

“I consider myself married and in a good relationship with my husband. And I’ve never seen a document related to divorce. I’ve never signed anything nor have I received anything,” she was reported saying.

Maira in the report also denied any hanky-panky and said the condominium was intended for her children.

‘Bolat didn’t file the suit’

She added that in a phone conversation a few weeks ago, Bolat was “shocked” to find out about the lawsuit, claiming that he had never initiated one.

The report adds that Bolat’s lawyer John Snyder had refused comment and asked that the media refer to the lawsuit which tells a very different story from Maira’s.

On claims that Daniyar was a high school dropout who conned his way into Columbia University, Maira, in the report said, “The story is all made up.”

“They are very saddened by the news that is coming out in the press about all these unsubstantiated claims,” she was quoted as saying.

On Wednesday, a source close to Najib’s wife Rosmah Mansor had said the allegations were “exaggerated” .

These allegations include that Daniyar's real family name should be Kesikbayev and not Nazarbayev, the latter a name that carries much influence in Kazakhstan.

Maira had reportedly legally changed Daniyar's family name after marrying Bolat in 2001.
