No prize for guessing who's behind the cyberattack

VOXPOP 'Following the relentless attack, it has become crystal clear that Malaysiakini is the de facto conduit of change.'

M'kini hit by yet another cyberattack

vox populi small thumbnail AnakBangsaMalaysia: Dear Malaysiakini , I hope you have made adequate preparations as the Scorpene-Altantuya scandal heats up and as the general election draws near.

The Umno-BN cyber-mercenaries are just testing the defences, we can be sure a more concerted attack will come soon.

As the foremost bastion of independent journalism in Malaysia, you can be sure that your portal will be one of the major targets for BN's hired cyberthugs.

Bender: What kind of result do they expect from this kind of attacks? Sure, Malaysiakini will be down for several hours.

But we the readers will surely not go and watch TV3 or read Utusan Malaysia instead. We'd wait for the portal to go back up or go to mirror sites such as Malaysiakini's Facebook page.

If anything, such tactics will only reveal the true colours of Umno and strengthens the resolve amongst us, the readers and truth-seekers, to see this regime go down.

Lin Wenquan: This latest caper is undeniably the dirty work of the recently BN-enlisted bunch of cyber-troopers who are out to create havoc in an attempt to muzzle the alternative media which are the only source on news of excesses, abuses and the corruption that plague the nation.

Their forte is to attack sites that are deemed by their masters as 'subversive' and dangerous to their agenda of hiding the truth from the people.

Since Umno-BN is devoid of convincing arguments to engage and counter the opposition and the alternative media rationally, they have to resort to hitting below the belt.

But in reality, this latest unprofessional shenanigan evinces the desperation of a regime to turn the tide of public antagonism and anger for the gangrenous state of affairs that the sycophantic and servile MSM (mainstream media) elects to black out whilst the alternative media so valiantly expose.

KJ John: Malaysiakini , I think you should raise funds for a ‘free elections service' and to set up three or four disparate and discrete mirror sites.

I think the general public will donate RM100 each for this special GE service. Please consider and I can join your board of trustees for the funds management.

Blind Freddo: I'm against this concept of donating money to a vague cause. The idea smacks of Malaysians once again throwing some money at a problem and then washing their hands of any further responsibility.

One assumes that Malaysiakini journalists are aware of the environment in which they are operating and as canny businessmen will have taken every precaution to address the risks involved.

If they need money for a specific purpose, then let them ask for it.

Telestai!: The call by KJ John is timely and as a concerned Malaysiakini reader, I applaud this suggestion and will be more than happy to donate RM100 towards this cause.

This cause is hardly vague as we all know who is behind these attacks - the party that will suffer a major loss in the coming GE should Malaysiakini continue to disseminate vital information to Malaysians in general.

Although Malaysiakini is a business, it will not be able to withstand further attacks from parties with seriously deep pockets.

Fair Play: Following the relentless attack, it has become crystal clear that Malaysiakini is the de facto conduit of change.

The stark reality is that for those who fear change, they can never stop it. Period.

Rafizi: No faith in MACC to probe Najib

Pemerhati: The strategy used by former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad was to put very reliable lackeys to head the enforcement agencies, the judiciary and the money-making public service agencies.

The most reliable lackeys in Mahathir's book were people who had committed an offence and hence could be blackmailed into doing anything crooked and illegal.

After that, the lackeys chosen were the ones who were thoroughly unprincipled and not too bright and showed strong boot-licking qualities as these people could be easily manipulated to do anything.

These lackeys in top positions then selected their suitable subordinates to carry out Mahathir's dirty work.

His successors Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Najib Razak have continued to use the same strategy as clearly seen by their selection of the top officers in the police, MACC, judiciary, etc.

Now PKR strategic director Rafizi Ramli says that he has faith in the CCID (Commercial Crimes Investigation Department), which is under the inspector-general of police (IGP), who is Najib's lackey. If I were Rafizi, I would not raise my hopes too high.

Little Hantu: Yes Rafizi, Malaysians have lost complete trust in the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) not only from the non-action on the RCI (royal commission of inquiry) findings into DAP aide Teoh Beng Hock's death but also from their selective investigations and prosecution of many cases involving the ruling elite.

Keep up the good work - and if MACC calls you in again, make sure they interrogate you on the ground floor.

Thana55: MACC's track record is a joke, a dismal one. These guys do not have any pride in their work. A massive re-organisation is a must when Pakatan Rakyat moves into Putrajaya come GE13.

Bring to book all those who have thwarted the course of justice and who lack any ethics or principles. Their parents must be really ashamed of them.
