Politicians are no angels, we need two-party system

VOXPOP 'Spot on, there are no perfect people, especially when it comes to politicians, be it BN or Pakatan.'

Fresh crackdown ahead of GE13?

vox populi small thumbnail Armageddon: Political analyst Khoo Kay Peng said, "Pakatan are no angels, the political culture (of corrupt practices) still exists."

We know that because most of them are either ex-Umno or ex-MCA.

But we need to change; we must have a two-party system and make sure Pakatan Rakyat wins GE13. If corruption still exists within Pakatan, we can kick it out in GE14.

NewMalaysia: Spot on, there are no perfect people, especially when it comes to politicians, be it BN or Pakatan.

As citizens, we must send them a clear message that we are willing and ready to remove whoever found to be corrupted and have abused their power.

This will keep most of them on their toes.

Thetruth: Well said. Let's all who support Pakatan bear in mind that Pakatan members, especially from PKR, are definitely no angels.

Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim too is not an angel. The bad apples in Pakatan need to be monitored and be rooted out. That said, we need to fix the system one step at a time.

Anonymous12345: Politics is about choosing the least of two evils. A two-party system with a strong opposition is the best system.

Odin: Naturally, Pakatan is not 100 percent clean. However, it is the only credible alternative for now. At least in Peninsular Malaysia it is.

Umno's underhanded tactics such as using its low-ranking members and thugs to harass, intimidate and to injure, is a sad reflection of its descent deeper to the bottom of the gutter.

Not Convinced: Checks and balances are crucial in a democracy. Without such mechanism, any person can gain power and become corrupt.

We don't need look far into our history to remind us of that. Indeed, Mahathirism has destroyed almost all of our democratic institutions, and restoring them may take another generation.

Yes, Pakatan politicians are no angels. So too are BN politicians. One of the most effective way to "keep the bastards honest" - to paraphrase ex-Australian Democrats' Don Chipp - is to ensure that no one party can remain in power for too long, let alone over half a century.

After all, power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. If Pakatan turns out to be as corrupt as BN, Malaysians must exercise their option to throw them out.

Anonymous #19098644: So far the only BN ‘exposes' are the scandalous unsubstantiated slander against Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and his wife, which Malacca MCA chief Gan Tian Loo is too cowardly to repeat in public, followed by the totally discredited Talam issue by the deputy minister who doesn't know his debits and credits.

Then The Star daily tried to falsely blame the Penang government for over-development of the hills above 250 feet. This again backfired as it was the corrupt BN government which approved those projects.

They are trying, but they keep putting their feet in their mouths due to their incompetence.

Lim Chong Leong: The reign of Premier Najib Razak will be remembered as both dirty and desperate. Scandal ridden and having no answers, he resorts to violent intimidation by using the government machinery and thugs alike.

The illegal Perak power grab, NFC (National Feedlot Corporation), Scorpene and Sodomy II - all abused governmental processes.

At the same time, Perkasa, the buttmen, Umno Youth thugs and even MIC gangsters intimidate and violently hurt anyone who opposes them. These are truly dark times for 1Malaysians.

Blind Freddo: "The disclosure and exposure of scandals are better, and even better than policy debates," said Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (Ideas) chief executive officer Wan Saiful Wan Jan.

What Wan Saiful has conveniently overlooked is the almost complete lack of ethics and principles in this country and the uselessness and incompetence of the public servants that are supposed to police these matters.

Nobody expects perfection, but it's something Malaysians should strive to achieve.

MCA's new dilemma - how to work as opposition

Ferdtan: To solve MCA's dilemma whether to behave like a ruling party at federal level or as an opposition party at Pakatan states, they should do neither. Just do the right thing and the rakyat would not fault them for trying.

Be sincere in their attempts to fight and speak out against all sorts of corruption, inefficiency, racism and political violence. Choose transparency and accountability of the government as the right way forward - whether it is Pakatan or BN-led.

Let it be a new form of governing or the agenda of a conscientious political party: on a 'issue-led' platform.

Indeed this is asking too much from politicians, even from both divide, to forgo self-interest and benefits for the good of rakyat.

Anonymous_5fb: If there is anything to blame for their dilemmas, MCA - and for that matter, Gerakan and MIC - have to blame themselves for thinking that Umno will be in power forever.

Ng Wai Luen: Simple. Fight for issues that are fair and equitable for all, without exceptions. Condemn injustice and racism, especially extremists policies. Stop corruption, argue coherently with true facts and figures, and articulate your points clearly.

The current crop of voters are educated and they are not easily swayed by sentiment or spins. Look after the interest of the rakyat, not your own pockets.

Jiminy Qrikert: MCA's dilemma is simply this - it is an impotent partner of a coalition at the federal level that is totally dominated by Umno to the extent MCA is more of a urinal for Umno while at the same time it is no more than a spitoon for the Pakatan parties in the states Pakatan governs.

Simply put, it cannot even squeak at the federal level, while it spews nonsense at the state levels.

Xxx: MCA has been spoilt by being in the ruling group for more than 50 years. They have absolutely no system and no infrastructure within the party to play the role of a proper opposition party in the Pakatan-governed states.

The results are the "cartoon shows" we are now witnessing when the MCA attempts to badmouth DAP and PKR, which upon further examination of the facts are found to be without basis.

In fact, some of the problems were actually created by the BN such as the hill development in Penang and the Talam debt in Selangor.

CSL (Chua Soi Lek) and CTY (Tee Yong) should remember the cliche about keeping your mouth shut, lest confirming to other people that they are indeed stupid.
