Selangor police today appealed to the victim of the failed snatch theft that allegedly occurred in the toilet of a Subang Jaya mall to come forward and lodge a police report.

“We urge the victim to lodge a police report because there is a (CCTV) picture of the suspect.

NONE “Even though she did not lose anything, the perpetrator may be involved in other cases to which we can link the suspect,” state police chief Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah ( right in photo ) told reporters at a media briefing in Shah Alam today.

“Let us investigate,” he added.

On Monday, Facebook user Sylvia Chew, a student, posted a first person account on how she was almost the victim of snatch theft in the Subang Jaya mall toilet.

She described how a man entered the ladies toilet and went into the cubicle next to the one she was in and snatched her bag from the side of the stall.

However, the man dropped her bag as he fled the scene when challenged by Chew and passers-by.

She reported the matter to the mall customer service but did not mention whether she had lodged a police report.

‘Mall crime not a challenge’

Asked if the surge of reports on mall related crimes posed a challenge to police, Tun Hisan downplayed the matter.

“No, no, no. We are always investigating all cases. Cases in malls garnered public attention because of the wide media coverage.

“There is no challenge,” assured the state police chief.

However, he asks the victims to come forward so that the cases can be investigated and the perpetrators brought to justice.
