VOXPOP ‘If Pakatan wins, it may take a few terms to dismantle this god. Only then, can we see the beginning of a new dawn.'
Who watches the racemen?
Swipenter: The Malays are afraid of their own shadows and are prone to externalise all their weaknesses and problems onto their created bogeymen, such as the Jews, Chinese, Western values, Christians, etc.
They need Muslims thinkers like Tariq Ramadan to open up their minds and not the likes of former Selangor PAS commissioner Hasan Ali, Perak mufti Harussani Zakaria and former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, etc.
The latter are more interested to entrap their minds, rather than freeing them to see things not only the prism of race and religion.
Anonymous #45823198: The Malays are not only competing with the non-Malay communities, but they are also struggling with ‘foreign' non-native elements within their own community.
One day the native Malays will lose all their rights to these so-called native Malays who migrated from other countries and whose contribution to this nation was nil compared with non-Malays who have lived here for three generations and fought together with native Malays for independence.
Timothy: Umno has through the years created a god. This god is placed much higher then any other god of all religions in Malaysia. This god is so sacred that no one can question anything related to it.
Through it, Umno stays in power, becomes corrupted, and they control and enslave the masses, the Malays and other Malaysians.
They staunchly and fervently preach, believe in and follow its teachings. Umno created an all-powerful god named 'Ketuanan Melayu'.
It is untouchable, with staunch followers like Umno, Perkasa, etc. If Pakatan Rakyat wins government, it may take a few terms to dismantle this god. Only then, can we see the beginning of a new dawn in Malaysia.
Shanandoah: How many can understand what S Thayaparan is saying? This article is way above the heads of our race-based politicians, who can only scream about race and religion and nothing else.
The strength of a multi-racial country is in its diversity and not in mono-ethnic race and religion. This I believe is what Thayaparan is trying to get at.
LittleGiant: Thayaparan's views are well-balanced and commendable. Umno-BN and, to a significant extent, Pakatan want to use race and religion as their dominant weapons to maintain their power.
As long as these parties can 'successfully' keep their polemics on race and religion going strong, the voters cannot expect their elected representatives to ask 'the tough questions' and the nation will not be able to move forward.
As Thayaparan has aptly put it, "Change is only possible if voters are sincere in changing the picture and not merely the frame."
Waytha to make last bid for passport tomorrow
Rocker Boy: Hindraf chairperson P Waythamoorthy is a Malaysian citizen and should be accorded the right to return home.
If he in breach of our laws, then charge him and let a Malaysian court decide on his guilt or otherwise. I hope there will be no drama on him coming back to the country.
Louis: Why must Waythamoorthy be punished for championing his community's rights? Umno does it, Perkasa does it, MCA does it, and so does MIC. Come on, let him come home unconditionally.
Mogansivas: As it is alluded, the Malaysian High Commission in London returned Waythamoorthy his expired passport and offered to issue him an emergency passport. That would allow him to make a one-way trip back to Malaysia.
The offer was turned down. What's your problem? Why the drama? What more do you want? A red carpet treatment and garland to boot?
Dr Suresh Kumar: I am so proud of you, Waytha. To do something that really matters for someone else is an admirable trait. Whatever that you have done for the marginalised Indian community makes you a very exceptional individual. People like Mogansivas are a dime a dozen.
I hope the IGP (police chief) in his wisdom respects Waytha's rights as a Malaysian and a human rights solicitor and grants him the permission to enter the country. If there is any element of criminality, the courts are there to judge him, hopefully in a fair and just manner.
CB: He should not be allowed home if his application is declined by the authorities. We need to follow the country's laws.
Thisia: Well, there are two sets of laws in this country. One for the Umno and another for non-Umno citizens. Waythamoorthy, as a Malaysian, has the right to return home. Rights not mercy.
Dr Jag: The blind (in Umno) can see the lame (in Umno) walk, and the deaf (in Umno) can hear the drumbeats behind Waytha's return, and the returns it will bring to the voters confidence in relinquishing their support for BN.
Waytha is a hero. Najib Razak is a zero. Dr Mahathir Mohamad is a Nero, fiddling while the citadels burn around him.
