Mano, use your brain before sending tweet

YOURSAY ‘Manoharan lost his devil. And shot his mouth off. But at 18-16, the guy with the nerves of solid steel won.'

Manoharan gets brickbats over tweets on Chong Wei

your say Opah: There is no shortage of stupidity among Malaysian politicians. National shuttler Lee Chong Wei lost the match but he won our hearts.

That's all that needed to be said. And to add that Malaysia would win a gold under Pakatan Rakyat just shows how shallow and manipulative this politician is. There was only one loser on Sunday night, and it was not Lee Chong Wei.

Giudice: Without commenting directly on what Kota Alam Shah assemblyperson M Manoharan said, I will say that I am of the view that our sports is in the state that they are precisely of political interference and racist attitudes. I cannot be sure but maybe that's the point that Mano was making.

In any event, I believe that if the sports bodies can be left to their own without political interference and if sportspersons can be chosen to be groomed and represent Malaysia based solely on ability and not other factors, then Malaysia will be in a much better position.

Cantabrigian: Twitter should make a pre-requisite that anyone who wishes to apply for a Twitter account should first prove that he or she has a functioning brain.

Jiminy Qrikert: Okay, enough is enough. Give Manoharan a break.

Sure, he shot his mouth off about Pakatan/DAP doing better for sports in the country but hey, everyone of us expresses our frustrations in different ways - to see your one real hope for an Olympic gold to make Malaysians proud leading 18-16 in the rubber only to lose just releases the devil in you.

Manoharan lost his devil. And shot his mouth off. But at 18-16, the guy with the nerves of solid steel won. How many times has this happened?

Yes, Lee Chong Wei (LCW) gave his all and we thank him. But we need to register and acknowledge when we have that one weakness as a nation - we are good, we are just never the best.

Except for Nicol David - at the moment, the world's no 1 in squash.

Peacemaker: Jiminy Qrikert, well said, facts remain facts. Let us put this matter to rest and move on. Sports shouldn't be linked to politics/race.

PaperRoses: Manoharan is naive and arrogant. If sports and politics do not mix, neither do sex (that is confined to bedroom) and politics. Why attack MCA president Chua Soi Lek then?

As a politician, he should understand the feeling of Malaysians, but he chose to ignore such a strong sentiment of the country towards LCW's loss.

Caesar's Wife: If Manoharan wishes to say that politicians should refrain from hijacking sportspersons' achievements, he is well within his rights.

But his thoughtless, insensitive tweets is disgraceful and unbefitting his position as state assemblyman and in the party. The best he should do is to simply apologise and not try to make more stupid comments.

FellowMalaysian: If Manoharan is really serious about Pakatan leading the country to its first gold medal in Rio De Janeiro in 2016, he should be wise enough not to ignite controversies. Learn a painful lesson from this as it may even cause you your state assembly seat.

Ramachandran Muniandy: Enough of politicians' comments, whether from BN or PKR or DAP.

If politicians wanted to comment, comment on the management of sports. Not only badminton but also other sports. We don't have a policy which produce sportsman and women of world ranking.

Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), now that LCW is retiring, who is next? We must groom new badminton players to take over. Politicians don't groom their deputy who can take over from them but only their kin.

Jaguh: Mano, when you were being detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA), everyone yelped for you, and even in your absence, you got elected. Repay humanity by respecting others who cared and tried.

Do not run people down. Humility goes a long way. What you did does not help your image one bit.

Disgusted: Stupid statement, Manoharan has put his foot in his mouth and now may regret it.

Vasudevan: Some of us must learn how to shut up and keep our thoughts to ourselves for the betterment of society - please do not put your foot where your mouth is.

Being in the Olympics and performing as well as LCW did is a feat not many Malaysians can do. We should be proud of it.

RockaBilly: Yes, Chong Wei lost but all is not lost. Chong Wei is the hero who had united all of us Malaysian together at least for a few days.

It does not matter whether you are Malay, Chinese, Indian or others or whether you are a BN or Pakatan supported, we all rooted for him.

And for once I felt proud to be a Malaysian to see all races coming together regardless of their political belief. No politicians could do that but Chong Wei did that on Sunday night. Thank you, LCW.

Xiao Zhu: If LCW don't ‘kiss' BN and PM's wife Rosmah Mansor, do you think he will get so much publicity?

What about Nicol David? She has won the squash world championship many times. Did any newspaper splash her achievement like they did with LCW?

Only two silver medals and they praise him like 'God'. I am not running down LCW - he is a great player, but please don't mix sports with politics.

NX: Before the match, I was told that Chong Wei always loses to Lin Dan because of his name, i.e. LCW means 'Let China Win'.

Then I was told that now he is called Dato Lee Chong Wei and he will win because DLCW means 'Don't Let China Win'. Good laugh though and lots of optimism before the game.

Anyway LCW or DLCW, the nation loves you.

Wira: Mano, you might have said the right thing but you did it at the wrong time. Would you say the same if Lin Dan had hit two shots into the net when Chong Wei was leading 19-18 in the decider?

Even if Chong Wei had won, badminton in Malaysia would still go Indonesia's way.
