Pakatan Rakyat should not have attempted to come up with a common theme for Merdeka Day as this only shows that its component parties cannot work together, said Umno and BN Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.

NONE Khairy (left) likened the opposition parties to the three-headed Greek mythical beast Cerberus, with each having its own mind.

He said that coining a theme is a simple issue, but that Pakatan could not even agree on what had been selected with the help of national laureate A Samad Said.

“...How can they achieve unity in opposition? Kelantan and Kedah have different themes and Selangor and Penang too,” Khairy said today.

“Can you imagine if they rule the country? There would be different laws - maybe Kelantan would have hudud (law), while other states would not .... I expect them to be united but this fiasco has proven otherwise.”

Merdeka Day is to commemorate the achievement of Independence, noted Khairy, but the Pakatan-held states are using the occasion to celebrate “different political and state affiliations”.

“ ....Maybe each PKR branch should have its own theme and logo,” he joked.

Penang is to use Budaya Bersih, Merdekakan Rakyat , while Kelantan will adopt Menerajui Perubahan (Spearheading Change) and Kedah's theme will be Terus Berbakti (Continue to Serve).

Selangor has adopted the Pakatan selected theme, Sebangsa, Senegara, Sejiwa.
