Evidence Act protest unites M'sians, again

YOURSAY ‘If robbers use a Proton Saga to commit a robbery, can the carmaker be held responsible?'

So what's with the black pop-up?

your say Changeagent: After Lee Chong Wei and Pandelela Rinong Pamg's heroic performances at the recently concluded London Olympics, the BN government is using the amendments to Section 114A of the Evidence Act to unite Malaysians of all races, religions and creeds again.

Lim Chong Leong: The Internet Blackout Day pop-up is really irritating for us who want to read the news.

You may want to campaign for a cause and it may be a good cause but if you irritate others to make your statement, it will have its drawbacks. Malaysiakini , please do not use this kind of semi-terror campaign tactics.

And the Volvo ad at the bottom - that too is very irritating. Yes, we understand that you may need revenue but do it in a less "in-your-face" way. We have enough of in-your-face commercials on TV already. Malaysiakini can lead the way by being more friendly to its users.

Myrights: Lim Chong Leong, the point that Malaysiakini is trying to make is if this law does not get overturned, then we will not have Malaysiakini in the future to even read the news.

Then, you will know the full impact of this law. The Blackout pop-up screen is to make an obvious point.

As a paying customer of Malaysiakini , I support this to bring about the appropriate level of awareness to the general public who otherwise won't even care about this.

Kim Quek: This legislative move by BN has made a complete mockery of PM Najib Razak's so-called transformations.

It is only one manifestation of the many such fake reforms peddled by the Najib leadership to hoodwink the electorate. Let us chuck this bunch of jokers into the dustbin of history.

No racism: How the heck did this law get passed? Was the opposition sleeping? BN must be kicked out for their arrogance and their seditious act off killing democracy in Malaysia.

All BN parliamentarians involved in passing this law must be put in jail after the next election. It was the will of our founding fathers that Malaysia be a democracy. It is also the will of the rakyat of Malaysia to remain democratic.

Yap cs: Merely looking at the support list of the Internet Blackout Day, one can seen that none of them are from BN. That is why they need to be kicked out of office, the whole lot.

OMG: We should be embracing and celebrating the Internet instead of avoiding it. Isn't that what they want? They don't want the Net to play such an important role in our lives.

For God's sake, don't switch it off even for a day. You are playing into their hands. This is a silly protest.

Imran: I think we should adopt Michael Jackson's song ‘They Don't Care About Us' as our theme song/music... It aptly describes the government's ‘tidak apa' attitude to the rakyat's wishes in everything they do.

Kgen: What this obnoxious law does is to make the police lazy and complacent in going after the real culprit. If the law says they can just charge the account holder whether he is guilty or not, why do any extra work?

The real culprits will be encouraged to post their slander because they know the police won't investigate any further than the account holder.

Tholu: The new section 114A (1) appears to cover print media as well (I stand corrected): "A person whose name, photograph or pseudonym appears on any publication..."

If that's the case , Utusan Malaysia should be charged with all the unabated and continuous seditious commentaries made in its newspaper. Walk your talk, Umno. Don't practice selective persecution. Show that nobody is above the law.

1Mockery: In essence what this "law" says is whatever BN likes is okay, anything to the contrary, you may be in for trouble.

Selective prosecution is the order of the day under the BN government. So much for the world's best democracy, Najib's version.

Keturunan Malaysia: So what one man (Dr Mahathir Mohamad) promised, another (Najib) binned.

Thus the reason I keep saying, we are mere imperfect mortals with a limited life-span... and we should use our brains to take one step forward at a time and always be prepared for a never-ending task to prevent and/or correct any wrong at the earliest given opportunity and let it not manifest itself for four or five decades again as we stupidly allowed.

The fight against evil is a never-ending struggle.

Odin: The Act must be abolished altogether for the simple reason that those making comments against the government and its leaders would be deemed guilty, whereas those who do that to the opposition coalition and its key figures would not be.

BTN: We call ourselves a democratic country but in actual fact we are no better than a communist country. No wonder the western countries call us a country that practices false democracy.

Ghazali Mat Nor: If robbers use a Proton Saga to commit a robbery, can the carmaker be held responsible?

What about the petrol company that provided the fuel for the vehicle, will they be held responsible too?
