BN more disadvantaged by anti-hopping law

VOXPOP 'Like in the 90s, Joseph Pairin Kitingan would have served as Sabah CM for a full-term had it not been for the jumpers.'

'Heavyweight defections' an opposition gimmick, says KJ

vox populi small thumbnail Podeh: Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, if you want a political future, the best thing to do now is jump ship. I believe with your intelligence and your speaking skills, there are parties willing to accommodate you.

But don't wait too long. Umno-BN is fast sinking and there is only so much time left. Jump, KJ, jump!

Hang Babeuf: "Heavyweight defections" an opposition gimmick, says KJ. "Lightweight thinkers an Umno speciality," says rakyat.

TimsTime: Khairy, you should also jump ship because you know that giving you a big post in the private sector is as good as giving you a farewell handshake. You will not be given any government portfolio even if you retain your seat come next GE.

What did you get after all these years of pledging your life and loyalty to BN? Some GLC chairperson position maybe. Minister's or even deputy minister's post - not in the least likely.

Disgusted: Khairy, you are right. Parliament would 'ignite' an anti-hopping law so that parliamentarians elected must vacate their seats before he or she could jump ship.

It has always been suggested by DAP and PAS way back during Dr Mahathir Mohamad's time for such laws, but it was BN which did not want such a law.

Even as recently as during the raid of the Perak government by PM Najib Razak, Pakatan Rakyat wanted such a law and BN again refused.

So don't talk nonsense now, saying that such law should be implemented. Put it to the next Parliament session as a bill and you will be guaranteed all Pakatan Rakyat MPs will support it.

Anonymous_4115: Khairy, you better suggest that Parliament pass a law so that elected parliamentarians must vacate their seats before he or she can jump ship. Had the law been in force, then Perak would still be under Pakatan.

But my dear Khairy, this law would be a disadvantage to BN so how can it pass this law? Like in the 90s, Joseph Pairin Kitingan would have served as chief minister of Sabah for a full-term had it not been for the jumpers.

Khairy, speak to BN and Umno to get the law passed, i.e. if they will listen to you.

'Hudud is still on but welfare state comes first'

Quigonbond: I think ultimately, it is less important for PAS to say it will not have hudud in its mission statement anymore. The more important thing is for PAS is to declare it will not join Umno after the GE, no matter what the circumstances are.

Within Pakatan, hudud is a pipe dream for the near future. While a desperate Umno, with its allies all wiped out, hudud may become a reality if Umno decides to shift all the way to the far right.

Can PAS declare it will not join Umno after GE13? If it can, the matter can be put to rest. If cannot, then what MCA says about voting for DAP equals voting for an Islamic state may well gain traction, because while they don't expressly say it, they are in a roundabout way thrashing Umno for having the potential to go far right.

Of course, it could simply drive Malaysians to reject Umno even more so that Umno and PAS won't gain two-thirds majority, or any majority for that matter.

Nil: Just restore our judiciary, education system and the police to their glorious days. That will be enough for GE13. Hudud can wait until GE14. You may find that you will not need it then - or that people won't mind.

Wira: Focus on good governance first. Punish the corrupt and make a transparent system to get suspicion and temptation out of the way you run government. Make Malaysia inclusive and justice equitable to everyone, not just to the powerful, rich and famous.

After that, we can study whether we still need hudud to lop off the hands of Muslim thieves.

Fairplayer: As long as hudud takes centre stage, count Sarawak out. PAS will not make inroads in Sarawak with their insistence on hudud.

Survivor: PAS cannot do away with the thought of hudud. Without hudud being part of their mission statement, there won't be a PAS. We can respect and live with it.

Just let it be, and let the BN scumbags harp on it. It should not cause the Pakatan people to break out in cold sweat about it. Continue with your main objective and agenda in your march to Putrajaya. Oust Umno-BN at all cost.

Anonymous #19098644: Follow the constitution, and the people of Malaysia will support Pakatan and PAS. The constituency that I am living in was contested by PAS, which lost marginally in 2008.

At that time, quite a number of Chinese had reservations about voting for PAS and sat out the elections. This time round, try talking to them and they will all tell you they will vote Pakatan and PAS.

Mountbatten: Focusing first on the welfare state sounds like the right thing to do because if people are hungry, they won't be in the mood to listen to religious teachings.

If they are forced to adhere strictly to too many rules under difficult conditions, chances are they will become extremists.

I think there is no problem in making Kelantan into some kind of special Islamic/hudud zone.

The important thing is that it is reversible and it be administered by capable and progressive leaders because people are worried that certain quarters may abuse the special status of the zone to further their own destructive interests.

I agree with PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, you can't force other people to accept hudud, you can only win over their hearts through showing them a good example.
