DAP rubbishes Umno's 3-3-3-1 retake formula

Penang DAP has poured scorn on Umno's determination to defend its 11 state assembly seats and achieve the 3-3-3-1 formula for the BN to regain the state in the 13th general election.
State DAP Socialist Youth chief Ng Wei Aik said BN was speaking with "double tongue" as its partner Gerakan had declared yesterday that the party should break it's zero results of 2008.
Ng, who is political secretary to Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, said the BN component parties may be united in their aim to retake Penang but "they speak different things" to different communities.
"Indirectly, Gerakan is trying to gain sympathy so it can help Umno win more seats. We hope the people are not tricked into believing them," the Komtar assemblyperson added at a press conference today.
"In the four years since we have been governing Penang, we feel the BN has not been a good opposition and failed to play its role as a constructive opposition. Like Umno, Gerakan too is prone to hurling slander and accusations without proof," Ng said.
'No quality of good opposition'
The BN also continued to allege that Lim, the DAP secretary general, was corrupt and took bribes, but never provided any evidence in support of its accusations.
Such was not the hallmark of quality or good opposition, for if the BN wanted to play its role properly, it would have proposed improved policies to benefit the people.
"If it continues to play with issues and racial sentiments or hurl baseless allegations to recapture Penang, we hope those who support Pakatan Rakyat policies will continue to support us," Ng said.
He said this in response to a Bernama report quoting Umno vice-president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as explaining the 3-3-3-1 formula as Umno, MCA and Gerakan adding three seats each and MIC one seat to the existing 11 Umno state assembly seats in the coming general election.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also defence minister, said a BN government could be formed in Penang with a one seat majority.
The BN was working full time now with the election drawing near, so as to overturn its dismal 2008 results in which the coalition won only 11 of the 40 state assembly seats it contested, with DAP taking 19 seats, PKR nine and PAS one.
