Audit report - remedial actions are what's important

YOURSAY 'Like a person facing personal challenges, it is what you do after the problem, and not the problem itself, that defines you.'

Kedah pays for repairs to imaginary houses

your say Ferdtan: Problems of corruption and dereliction of duties committed by civil servants and state employees are always there. There are no excuses for the wrongdoers, but what is important here are the reactions and the remedial actions of the government in question.

We often criticise the BN government because of their indifference towards the perpetrators, with no punitive actions taken when proven guilty.

The test of integrity of a government, in this case the Kedah government, is what it needs to do to correct the situation or problem. Like a person facing personal challenges, it is what you do after the problem, and not the problem itself, that defines you.

So we call upon the Kedah government to start internal investigations into the issue, and if it is found that crimes had been committed, they should not protect any guilty party and lodge police reports. That way they can be different in comparison to BN.

Fair&Just: It is very good that the Kedah Menteri Besar's Department is found wanting and in dereliction of duty like all the BN-ruled states, federal departments and all civil service agencies.

Now let's see which, when, who and how fast will remedial actions be taken by the parties involved, whether BN, PAS, PKR or DAP.

For 55 years, there have been reports on leakages, neglect, dereliction of duty, wanton spending, etc. Let's see how Kedah can or will correct itself, this being the first test for Pakatan Rakyat's governance.

Onyourtoes: I will accept some are corrupt and incompetent. But I will never accept if no action is taken by the leadership to make the culprits pay for their incompetency, stupidity or dishonesty.

Kheng: This is only their first term. I am sure more could and would be done to improve the accountability and competency of the PAS state government in Kedah if they are re-elected.

We must also not forget that essentially it is still the same civil service that has served BN who are now working for the PAS state government. As the saying goes ‘Old habits die hard'.

OMG: There is no excuse for this sort of mismanagement. The mark of proper governance must include accountability. The menteri besar needs to be made accountable. The opposition must rectify this and ensure it is not repeated.

Otherwise, they are no better than the BN government, which has never been proactive about rectifying mistakes or taking steps to prevent them.

Anonymous #49857050: This is where Pakatan has to be on its toes. If there is an under-performing official, as in this case the MB, then they as a coalition should take steps to rectify the situation.

It has already been almost five years that Azizan Abdul Razak has been the MB and if there are instances where such nonsense occurred, he should be hauled up to explain and replaced if necessary.

Furthermore, action must be taken - if necessary, police action - on the state officers who allowed these bills to be paid. Pakatan cannot afford to slip up even a bit.

Don't Play-Play: PAS and Azizan knows too well that their win in Kedah is a fluke and they do not have the confidence of retaining the state government in GE13.

So they are making hay while the sun is shining. The same goes for Penang and Selangor, if we were allowed to scrutinise their dealings more transparently.

Anonymous_5fb: You want Umno's Mukhriz Mahathir to be the next Kedah MB? To me, no way. If Azizan is not capable enough, then elect another more capable one from Pakatan to be the MB. In the meantime, let Azizan explain these hanky-panky.

Angry_Voter: I have said it before and I am going to say it again - Azizan is not the most suitable person for the job of MB.

He may be knowledgeable in religious matters but he is completely clueless when it comes to managing state economics. It takes more than an ulama to run a good and efficient government.

Abuminable: Azizan belongs to a different century. He is totally unsuited to be MB of Kedah. We want Kedah and as many states as possible to be under Pakatan, but not with bumbling fuddy-duddies like Azizan, who is obviously the least impressive leader of all the Pakatan states.

Timothy: We have come to a stage where I wonder, who can we trust to run this state/country justly and efficiently without corruption.

I think we should out source the 'government of Malaysia' to foreigners. We may advertise the PM's and cabinets position worldwide.

At one stage, the Peruvians were so sick and fed up of their own corrupted leaders that they gave a Peruvian of Japanese origin a chance to be the president.

Opah: Over to you Pakatan, we are waiting for your action, not a list of pathetic excuses.
