A DAP parliamentarian hit out at the BN backbenchers today for alleging that Pakatan Rakyat-led states had cooked the books to shine in the Auditor-General's 2011 Report.

NONE "They are questioning the intelligence and integrity of the auditor-general (Ambrin Buang)," lamented Bukit Bendera MP Liew Chin Tong (left) .

He implied that the claim that Pakatan states had inflated earnings by moving around funds into state trust accounts, is as good as saying that the auditor-general and his staff are not competent enough to make a thorough check and spot questionable practices.

"Who are we going to believe? The Kota Belud MP (Abdul Rahman Dahlan) or the auditor-general?" asked Liew rhetorically.

He also defended the movement of federal-issued funds in state accounts as lacking mischief.

" NONE Moving money from Point A to B is not the point,"said Liew, arguing that the funds are given to the state and it is normal to shift this around to be used as required.

He accused Abdul Rahman (right) and fellow-BN backbencher of "talking nonsense".

Liew said the important point to note is that movement of funds aside, the auditor-general has found Pakatan-led states to be competent and to have managed their finances well.

Meanwhile, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has rubbished the comment by BN MPs that Pakatan Rakyat states practise “creative accounting” to polish their financial performance in the 2011 Auditor-General’s Report.

“Are you (BN MPs) accusing the Penang government or the Auditor-General’s Report? It is from the AG’s department, you know?” Lim shot back when asked about the matter at a press conference today.

“We do not wish to respond to people who do not know basic accounting,” added the DAP secretary-general.

“By making the comment, the BN is questioning the AG’s Report as it is the same as the state’s. This is why we do not want to waste our time explaining the matter.”
