Police force now guardian of the faith?

VOXPOP 'The so-called guardians of the law are no longer guardians of the law, but guardians of various religions.'

Cops quiz forum co-organiser over letter probe

vox populi small thumbnail Chee Hoe Siew: "Because Malays are Muslims, we are here to protect the religion," according to investigating officer Nadzri Harun who interviewed a co-organiser of a forum where Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar said there should be no compulsion in religion.

Am I hearing this wrongly or the cops have their priority wrong? Their duty is not to protect the religion, but maintain law and order in the country.

Seriously, with such a high crime rate, I would appreciate that Nadzri go out more often to catch thieves and robbers than probing what was said at a forum.

Gen2: Nadzri himself is actually not offended. It is just that his boss told Nadzri that he (Nadzri) must be offended. Only then did Nadzri realise that he is offended.

That is how the BN government has brainwashed the civil service to the extend that they don't know they are offended until the boss tell them so.

Abasir: It appears that the police have a ready stock of semi-literates and morons who are assigned to such cases.

Who else is capable of making statements such as "We need to know from Malay participants who attended the forum ... because Malays are Muslims"?

Sa Tombs: So now the PDRM (Royal Malaysian Police) are playing the race game. Malay officers protect Islam, Indian officers protect Hinduism, Chinese officers protect Buddhism, etc. What kind of idiots run the PRDM?

If that's the case, there are no officers left to maintain law and order and or combat crime. Now we know that our so-called guardians of the law are no longer guardians of the law but guardians of the various religions.

Ipohcrite: If the police report could be released with the permission of those being investigated, perhaps it should be published in Malaysiakini for all to see and judge what's seditious about Steve Oh's letter .

I thought ASP Nadzri Harun's job is to investigate a complaint, not to act as a moral or religious enforcer.

Remember, the taxpaying rakyat are Nadzri's employers and he'll do well to do the job he is paid to do, not moonlight for any political party.

Kgen: I suggest that no more religious forums be organised as long as BN is in power. This is a regime which twists religion for its political purpose so it is unnecessary to give BN fodder to work with.

Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar was replying to a question and she may have been baited by those close to the regime. As long as BN is in power, such religious forums are a waste of time.

Hee to defend Jelapang seat as BN candidate

Ferdtan: There is no way Jelapang state assemblyperson Hee Yit Foong will contest under BN.

Before she defected to BN, it is possible that she was promised by PM Najib Razak (anything just to get her to jump ship) that she would be retained to contest the seat in the next election.

Possibly she is calling up on their agreement to remind Najib. BN is not stupid enough to put her up to contest again; knowing that she was once branded by the Chinese community as the most hated person in the country.

The online sites were flooded with unprintable vitriol against her, the Jelapang market sellers were refusing to sell vegetables to her family and there was even a ‘Taoist ritual burning' of her effigy completed with lit joss sticks. So do you think she is a winnable candidate for BN?

Vgeorgemy: If she feels she has constituents support why does she bother to be on BN's ticket. Stand as an Independent instead.

Lover Boy: Hee Yit Foong, in the last election, you won by a majority of 6,707 votes. You are absolutely right.

Now with the BN machinery under you, you will double the majority and show Najib you are a super winnable candidate. Don't talk so much, just stand in Jelapang.

Please organise a ceramah, and I am sure all Malaysians from other states will come to hear you.

Onyourtoes: You think it is fun for you to cause the collapse of the state government that the people have elected and longed for.

You are welcome to stand but you and I know it is just an empty talk out of defiance and intransigence on your part.

You know in your heart you and your descendants for the next seven generations will never win in Jelapang again.

2LAN: She will not dare to stand again but is just showing a brave front and pretending to stand so that BN will ‘settle' with her again not to stand.

Up2U: "She claimed MCA will not field a candidate in the BN spirit but said this arrangement may be changed at the last minute."

I bet the arrangement will be changed and Hee will not be fielded as BN candidate.
