PAS' powerful majlis syura, the party's highest authority, has broke its silence over undercurrent concerns of the party having veered off course in its zeal to capture Putrajaya, maintaining that PAS remains true to its cause.

NONE "The ulamas in PAS' majlis syura would like to stress and confirm that PAS today is as it was before. Its struggle has not veered off from its original struggle.

"PAS remains strong and is still on its original struggle without deviating even a bit as spelled out in the (party) constitution...," it said in an official statement released at the 58th PAS muktamar in Kota Bharu today.

The party direction, it says, was consistent with clause 5(1) of the party constitution that states: "... To champion the creation in this country, of a society and rule that abides by the values of Islam and laws towards the blessing of Allah.”

Council defends partnership with Pakatan allies

The syura council was responding issues raised about the party's direction and its 'welfare state' manifesto at the 58th PAS Muktamar in Kota Bharu which began on Friday and and will conclude tomorrow.

This was similarly raised during the muktamar of the party's three wings - Youth, Muslimat and Ulama - which began on Wednesday and concluded on Thursday.

"The majlis syura has debated again on whether the welfare state is something new and contradictory to the concept of Islamic state which has been championed by PAS all this while.

"We also discussed on tahaluf siyasi (political consensus with Pakatan) by PAS, whether it is relevant and consistent with our struggle or otherwise, on top of taking account of comments from within and outside PAS about the party's direction," the council said.

The council concluded that these were consistent with the scriptures, including the Quran.

As such, the syura council urged its members not to entertain accusations hurled by the party's enemies, which claim that PAS had deviated from its struggle.
