MCA slams Xavier's poor response to altar demolition
Selangor executive councillor Dr Xavier Jayakumar has been slammed by a Selangor MCA representative for his "inconsistent" responses in defending the Sepang Municipal Council's (MPS) demolition of the altar of a Hindu family in the compound of their house.
Selangor executive councillor Dr Xavier Jayakumar has been slammed by a Selangor MCA representative for his "inconsistent" responses in defending the Sepang Municipal Council's (MPS) demolition of the altar of a Hindu family in the compound of their house.
MCA Sungai Pelek assemblyperson Yap Ee Wah ridiculed Xavier's excuses on the demolition, asking why the Seri Andalas assemblyperson had to wait a week after the incident to say the MPS action was "unilateral" and that the municipality president was not consulted before the demolition.
"It is typical of Pakatan Rakyat's consistency in being inconsistent, which comes as no surprise," Yap said in a statement yesterday.
"Xavier (

Some 30 MPS enforcement officers on Nov 20 marched into the gated compound of Umah Devi's house in Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi, Sepang, and proceeded to demolish a small altar there.
Xavier, Yap said, had initially defended the action of the local council by saying that the council had the right to act against illegal structures, regardless of their location.
"It is obvious that his initial, aloof remarks - which are completely callous and insensitive and have hurt the feelings of the Hindus - have already affected his voters' support.
"However, pleading ignorance in the wake of the public uproar shows his insincerity in resolving this serious matter," he added.
MPS' blitzkrieg
Yap also described the excuses given by the three Selangor state executive councillors as "ineffectual", saying that they neither have control over the MPS employees nor any idea about what they are doing.
"Xavier must also be completely uninformed about the existence of his own state government- introduced policy - or the local council workers must know they can defy it without censure," said Yap, asking why no action or inquiry has been carried out against the MPS employees involved in demolishing the altar.
Yap has also criticised the PAS leaders for their silence on the demolition despite bragging about respecting and protecting the religious rights of non-Muslims.
"Is their silence a tacit approval of the MPS' blitzkrieg, given PAS' goal of implementing hudud at state and federal levels?" asked Yap.
Following the demolition of the altar, seven Indian leaders in Pakatan called for the suspension of the MPS officers involved in the action and for the Selangor government to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
