YOURSAY ‘The reality is that while we all want Anwar to be PM and Pakatan to be the government, the odds are in favour of the BN.'
Umno less arrogant under Najib, says party veteran
Gerard Lourdesamy: Veteran Umno leader Abdullah Ahmad was the one who coined the ‘Ketuanan Melayu' concept, so we can discount his pro-Umno views.
The Malay vote is not really a battleground because Umno will get about 55 percent of the Malay vote and Pakatan Rakyat the rest.
That is not enough to form the government. With more than 80 percent of Chinese and at least 50 percent of Indians backing Pakatan, it is going to be a tight race.
The battleground will be Sabah and Sarawak where Pakatan needs to capture no fewer than 20 seats for a slim majority in Putrajaya.
PM Najib Razak is going to end up like Gordon Brown in the United Kingdom.
He waited for too long, exhausted the public goodwill and is incapable of being consistent on any issue.
Other Najib's handicaps are his wife Rosmah Mansor, his elitist background and the fact that in his entire political life he never had to fight for anything.
Najib is the product of Umno feudalism. That really does not appeal to many Umno voters and Malay fence-sitters.
Jiminy Qrikert: The reality is that while we all want Anwar Ibrahim to be PM, and Pakatan Rakyat to be the government, the odds are in favour of the BN given the dirty polls that will take place.
What is important is for the rakyat to ensure the BN loses even more parliamentary seats and more states.
So, even if the BN does win, it will be so shackled at the federal and state levels, that it will have no choice but not to be arrogant anymore.
God willing, Pakatan will win, PAS checked and confined to the super Malay-majority seats in Kelantan, Kedah and Terengganu and Anwar becomes PM with PKR as government in more states.
Anon1: What I find really funny about these retired politicians is how they claim a lot of things are great and honky-dory without any facts, statistics nor proof.
See Abdullah Ahmad's "However, (Prime Minister) Najib has been doing a decent job since he took over from Abdullah in 2009", "Umno is likely to reclaim the Malay heartland in the next general polls", "Najib's leadership shows no sign of coming to an end, and Umno shows no sign of diminishing", and "Najib is not going to be the last Umno prime minister."
What's the freaking basis for your statements, sir?
Cantabrigian: Abdullah Ahmad, what are you implying? Are you saying that the previous Umno leaders were arrogant, cocky and boorish? If you knew it earlier, why are you only speaking out now?
Sorry to differ with your wise view, but I think that the current Umno leaders are ignorant, dismissive and indecisive, leadinh to racial vigilantes like Malay rights group Perkasa and Malaysian Islamic and Welfare Association (Pekida) roaming freely to do the dirty job in spurting bigotic venom upon Umno's opponents.
Anonymous #76965586: Until today, they still think that Malaysians are too stupid to understand the real situation in their country.
Perhaps, I am wrong. Perhaps, they are the fruits of 22 years of intimidation and brainwashing education.
IamMsian: Umno is less arrogant, but still as corrupted.
Quigonbond: Apart from the nonsense of Umno being less arrogant, I just wish to note one other thing: I don't know how anyone can say with a straight face that Najib will be the last Umno prime minister. Of course it won't be.
Even if BN falters in GE13, they will still be around as political parties in the federal opposition, and who knows, ruling party in some states. Umno will still be around. Its leaders may change, hopefully for the better.
Then one day, Pakatan falters, and the BN will be back in power with Umno at the helm, and its president once again becoming the prime minister. People, look long term.
Apapunboleh: Umno's arrogance is being outsourced to Malay rights group Perkasa. Perkasa behaves and speaks on things that Umno wants to, but can't at this moment.
Ferdtan: What do you expect Abdullah Ahmad, aka Dollah Kok Lanas, to say when he is close to (and afraid to offend) Mahathir? To make the old man happy, he has to make light of his bitter enemy, Anwar Ibrahim.
Abdullah, you still have not learnt the lesson when the police under home minister Ghazali Shafie during Hussein Onn's premiership had you detained under ISA with the allegedly false charge of being a communist.
Who send you to detention for five years? It was Umno. The saddest thing is that you had no courage and conviction to fight (even though you said you were innocent).
Unlike Anwar, who held on to the end to fight his trumped-up charges at great cost to his liberty, you just surrendered.
The saddest thing I remember was you and another ISA detainee, ex-PM Abdul Razak's press secretary Abdullah Majid came out on national TV to confess the so-called crimes.
So can we trust you with what you say now. Or is it what you are saying is political expediency to curry favour with Mahathir?
Anonymous #32993250: Najib is in no position to be arrogant as he will out soon enough.
Please understand he has no mandate as yet and needs to eat humble pie and needs help from Indian voters to win.
That is the reason why he is celebrating lesser known Pongal everywhere and anywhere to entice Indian votes.
He cannot be arrogant, but once he wins, he will surely be again.
Anonymous_251d: Arrogant is arrogant. There is no such thing as less arrogant.
Erinyes: Najib has been doing "a decent job"? This mediocre reference is not going to get Najib re-elected and Abdullah Ahmad knows it.
He was detained under ISA by former prime minister Hussein Onn and it was Dr Mahathir Mohamad who got him out, so guess who this guy is working for now?
Maplesyrup: Umno is less arrogant because of people power. Left to its own devices, Umno is incapable of being humble, period.
