Sabah invaders also 'enemies of the state', no?

YOURSAY 'At least, Xenophon has a return ticket. The militants ‘bought' a one-way ticket and are bent on staying put.'

My army will stay put in Sabah, insists Sulu sultan

your say Fire_Rock: The cabinet needs to assess the situation carefully. On the pretext of ancestral land, the Philippine government may assert a claim of Sabah as it did in the 1960s. In due course, Manila could make a tougher stance on its claim on Sabah.

Technically, armed troops intruding across border is an act of war hence we could neutralise the threat with the use of force.

In addition, we could even interdict the threat at the source. In this case, if the intruders are not in military fatigue representing any country, they could be treated as militias, hence the Geneva Convention does not apply here. They need not be treated as prisoners of war.

Suffice to say we could use our local laws to prosecute them, like we did to the Al-Maunah gang in the late 90s where two of its leaders were hanged. Any legal expert out there who wish to contradict on this point of law?

Geronimo: Congratulations Umno, you have started it (allowing illegal immigrants into Sabah and making them instant citizens), now finished it.

In fact by now, the army should have stormed the area where the militants are holed up but instead the government decided to play footsie with them for more than a week, while an Australian senator was put in a holding cell and deported back to Australia the same day.

Nick Xenophon should have come armed to the teeth and maybe Umno would have allowed him to stay. At least, Xenophon has a return ticket and checked in through the proper channel. The militants ‘bought' a one-way ticket and are hell-bent on staying put.

As for the people of Sabah, this is the thanks you get for voting in the BN, a government of great incompetence. In a nutshell, our security has been compromised.

Borg Kinaulu: What kind of sultan is Jamalul Kiram when he is ignored by the government and Muslim rebels in the Philippines and yet claim that he has a right to Sabah? He is, at most, just another refugee.

The right thing for the Sulu sultan to do is to bring his sultanate to join Malaysia including all its people and land currently under the Philippines. then perhaps he can even negotiate for a turn to be Malaysia's Agong.

He will be contributing to Umno's dream of building the greater Malay kingdom in Southeast Asia and get a red carpet reception.

Tailek: The yearly compensation to the sultanate is obviously not adequate any longer as far as their heirs are concerned. This does not augur well for Malaysia. If we have to pay a yearly compensation, it looks like we are only renting Sabah from the Sulu Sultanate and we do not own Sabah.

This situation should have been fixed by the BN government decades ago. It looks like we are now in a weak position.

Lover Boy: My advice to the good sultan is to bring this matter to the International Court of Justice and have your case made out there.

Please Malaysian security forces, do not be trigger happy and do a Little Big Horn massacre like what General Custer did to the Red Indians. This is their country too.

Kuning: Maybe this (stand-off) is an opportunity sought by the BN government to impose emergency on Sabah just in time for the election to avert electoral disaster.

There is no reason for the federal government to dilly-dally any concrete action to send the group back to where they came from. Unless, there's another reason.

Peacemaker: Now, who is the real ‘enemy of the state'? Xenophon or Sultan Jamalul Kiram and his 400 followers?

Armed intruders seek meeting with 'prominent' M'sian

Onyourtoes: "If anyone is killed, then the government and authorities will stand accused," Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said.

Very good, now please explain to us all the shootings and the deaths in police custody here in Peninsular Malaysia. You want me to name them?

These people got names you know, they also have relatives and families members and they also have feelings just like those armed infiltrators in Sabah.

OMG!!: This government has so much empathy for armed militants who intruded the country illegally and is so caring to the feelings of outsiders who were granted citizenship for votes.

What about Sabahans' security and feeling? Margaret Thatcher went to war with Argentina just to protect a few hundred Falklanders who were against the Argentine invasion and wanted the island to remain a British territory.

Here in Malaysia the standoff has lasted more than a week yet the PM and the DPM were busily campaigning, and the home minister and defence minister are not on site. There is no emergency meeting of the National Security Council.

Is this the way to treat the people of the ‘fixed deposit' state?

Stories: This is just stupid. Why even bother negotiating with armed intruders? Might as well just hand out citizenship now and resolve their "intrusion".
