Rais playing dumb on Tanda Putera screenings

VOXPOP 'The damage is being done but no law seems to be broken. And Umno gets to spew its poison. What a wonderful and wicked plan.'

Rais: Nobody told us about Tanda Putera screenings

vox populi small thumbnail LittleGiant: Information Minister Rais Yatim's claim that his ministry is not aware of the 'Tanda Putera' screenings seems totally ridiculous.

The controversial film, which the cabinet agreed was not appropriate for public viewing, was shown about three weeks ago at PWTC exclusively to the Felda settlers. It was claimed that the film was screened on the 'directive' of the prime minister.

If the information minister and his ministry have no control over a film that is alleged to contain racial elements and which the cabinet agreed is 'not suitable' for public screening, then the minister should ask the producers of the film to add a disclaimer to inform the public that the Information Ministry has no authority over the screening of the film to the public and that all issues pertaining to the film should be directed to the PM's Office only.

Another option is for the prime minister to also assume the information portfolio, in addition to the finance and women and family development portfolios he already holds.

Lim Chong Leong: So what is the law on screening the offensive film? The Censorship Board has cleared it, but the cabinet has said it is not appropriate for screening.

This is just passing the buck and nothing more. Rais says his ministry does not know about it but the highest warlords of Umno are attending the movie screening.

The damage is being done but no law seems to be broken by its screening. And Umno gets to spew its poison. What a wonderful and wicked plan.

Anonymous_4031: Where is MCA president? Where is MIC president? Where is Gerakan president? Where is PPP president? Where is PBS president? Where is SUPP president? Where is PBB president?

Have they all lost their tongues? Have they lost their nerves? Are you all men of courage and dignity? Stand up and be counted. Show the world that you are made of sterner stuff and that you will never be chicken-hearted.

1MsiaMyAss: "I did not know about this movie screening...", "I don't know who put up the flags in Penang...", "I don't know who threw those stones at the Pakatan ceramah...".

Hello, does anyone know who's running the country?

YHJ: I dedicate this song by the Platters to the minister of misinformation - ‘The Great Pretender'.

Anonymous-9748: The minister is playing the actor with the white face, while others are playing the black face - this is nothing new in Peking opera.

Sulu intruders mull 'disengagement'

PRSJK: This is bloody ridiculous. They came in, challenged our sovereignty, killed our security personnel and turn their wives into widows.

These intruders swore that they would die fighting. And after murdering our police/soldiers, they now want to look for a way out.

I echo what our minister said ... that we must destroy them. If we don't take a firm stand, other pretenders will come in the future to lay claim on Sabah.

Jimmy Ng: Too late. Your army was guilty of killing and then cruelly mutilating some of our soldiers; beheading one of them and gorging the eyes of another. Such brutality must be punished to the fullest. Surrender without conditions.

Orang Jauh: Still not enough bloodshed? Why don't the two parties involved make direct contact without any third party involvement?

Sultan Jamalul Kiram must send his emissaries direct to Kuala Lumpur, and now.

Cannon: The terrorists have subjected our men to the most gruesome atrocities. What does Jamalul Kiram expect? Either his men lay down their weapons or die. There are no two ways about this.

Fairnsquare: While we appreciate Philippine Secretary of Interior Manuel Roxas II's assistance, we should also make it clear that Malaysia does not negotiate with terrorists and the Philippine Interior Ministry should not act as a mouthpiece for terrorists groups.

His concern should only for innocent Filipinos who could get injured in the crossfire, not the terrorists.

The whole episode is getting suspicious and smells of some large foreign power instigation, with the UN secretary-general's speedy response , considering that more urgent unrests around the world are not getting any UN attention.

Zack: Negotiation is the best way to end this fighting. If we kill more of Kiram's followers, there will be more intrusions in future by those seeking revenge.

Lahad Datu and other nearby coastal areas will not be a safe place any more. Life is cheap for those Suluks. We should even think of investing in Tawi-Tawi.
