Pakatan Rakyat's inconsistent remarks on plans to shut down the Lynas rare earths refinery proved that its manifesto could not be taken seriously, said MCA.

The party's deputy publicity chief Loh Seng Kok said although the manifesto had stated that the Lynas plant would be shut down if Pakatan came to power, PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has made contradictory remarks on the matter.

malaysiakini interview loh seng kok 061108 01 Loh ( left ) was referring to Anwar's recent interview with Sydney Morning Herald , where he said that a Pakatan federal government would fast-track an inquiry on whether the refinery truly did not pose a threat to the public.

If it was indeed safe, he claimed that the plant would be allowed to operate. This contradicted with his pledge to dismantle the plant during a rally in Feb 26 last year.

Loh stressed that the contradictory remark had implications on Pakatan's manifesto as a whole because it could no longer be trusted.

"This is a clear violation of their promise listed in their manifesto whereby it was made clear that Pakatan will be halting all of Lynas' operations if it wins the federal government," said Loh.

Loh added that Pakatan is still struggling to fulfill their promises to voters in the four states which it administers, and are now making more far-fetched promises.

"Thus, we can safely assume that any manifesto and promise by Pakatan is only a ploy to win votes, because in the end, the rakyat can only sit and wait for the promises made by Pakatan," he said.
