Najib is campaigning on fear, not on hope

YOURSAY 'What a pathetic way to campaign for re-election. Instead of dwelling on the positives, Najib campaigns on the negatives.'

PM says economy at risk from weak GE result

your say Tim'sTime: What PM Najib Razak is worried about is not the economy since BN is the cause for the weak economy. We are considered the third largest economy in South-East Asia. Indeed, why are we only third and not the largest?

Weren't we one of the Asian dragons in the 70s? What has happened? We are supposed to be the ‘most blessed with natural resources' country in Asia. And yet our currency has weakened compared to our neighbours.

Look at Taiwan, South Korea, Brunei and Singapore. Weren't we better well off than them in the 70s? We have petroleum, perfect climate, tin ore, beautiful sea and a population which speaks three languages. With such advantages, we should have been more competitive than other countries.

Perhaps the rot started in the early 80s since Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his corrupt culture has become cancerous to the economy. So Najib, I suggest that you get ready to pack up to make way for the new PM. And it doesn't really matter who.

Cala: Look at Najib's criteria of performance. His idea is outdated for he is overly concerned about GDP per capita and growth rate.

All these are economic growth-related issues. What about economic development, fairness, social justice and equity?

If he feels he lacks confidence, this is because the masses are not with him except those in the rural areas and the ruling elites.

Secondly, why should Malaysia become less stable if Umno is defeated? As former DPM Musa Hitam had said two weeks ago, Malaysia will be better placed to face future challenges when Pakatan Rakyat takes over.

Starr: What a pathetic way to campaign for re-election. Instead of dwelling on the positives, Najib campaigns on the negatives.

Indeed, this election will be fought on just one issue alone - it's all about good governance, of responsibility, accountability and transparency.

If Umno-BN has been progressive, responsible, accountable and transparent in governance for the past few decades, there wouldn't be any need for reforms.

It's precisely because of the way Umno-BN has governed the country for the last 56 years, the rakyat has been increasingly disappointed and frustrated with the ruling elites and there's an overwhelming mood across the country for change.

A change is desirable not necessarily because Pakatan is better and able, but it's necessary to bring about the realisation that Umno-BN has 'no divine right' to govern.

Vijay47: Najib, to cut to the chase, I do not care two hoots that a poor showing in the general elections will cost you your job.

In fact, I am hoping that not only you but your entire bunch join the ranks of the unemployed, not that any of you will be facing starvation soon. And stop trying to scare us about a weak economy if you don't win.

Umno's continued hold on government will be an assurance that this country will go to the dogs. Your record over the past few years has given us a pretty good idea of what is in store should Umno win again, thank you.

For the good of Malaysia and our future, Umno must lose and must be destroyed. Your promises ( janji ) mean zilch to us, you in particular cannot be trusted.

You met the Pope, had tea with local Christian leaders and piously made all manner of pledges. Almost the very next day, you unleashed Muslim fanatics on us.

Trust you? Yeah, sure, when the sun rises in the west and hell freezes over.

ACR: A problem cannot be solved by the same level of thinking that created them, said Albert Einstein.

The budget deficit is Najib's doing - astronomical growth in spending over the last four years, which sadly boiled down to vote buying through one-off cash handouts to citizens. It never went towards enhancing productive capacity of the economy. So no vote for you.

Onyourtoes: Dear PM, it is useless to talk about Arab Spring, much less about the dividends from it. Arab Spring is for countries which do not believe in democratic process, unless Umno-BN is also subscribing to it now.

What this country needs is a peaceful transition of power. For too long, this country  has been shackled under Umno's moronic rule. I think the people are now eagerly looking forward to a new beginning - a new beginning totally decoupled from their moronic past.

You rightly said the government you lead is a stronger government than the one that emerged from the 2008 election, but the fundamental question is what did you do with that strength available to you?

Did you put righteous men and women in charge? Did you uphold justice, incorruptibility, ethics, and freedom of belief? Did you uphold thrift and reduce wastage? Did you tear down institutionalised racism, contain extremism and relieve the native Sabahans from oppression?

Did you uphold equal citizenship, freedom of speech and association and the rule of law? Did you seriously look at the rampant abuse of power in the police, MACC, the judicial process and the civil service in general from ROS, BTN to Rela?

Did you do anything on monopoly power, distortions from ill-conceived privatisation, and gross inequality in opportunities and income? What reform, PM, when the original version of NEM (New Economic Model) was watered down to beyond recognition?

Dood: Well, you heard the man. I guess we have to work extra hard to make sure we give Pakatan a resounding victory.
