Hunger strike over, Hindraf's back to square one?

YOURSAY 'I am glad Waytha has ended his fast. I hope he has not damaged his health and I think Hindraf should reopen talks with Pakatan in good faith.'

Waythamoorthy collapses, ends hunger strike

your say LittleGiant: I am happy that P Waythamoorthy, the Hindraf chairperson, has ended his hunger strike and hope he recovers soon.

I really do not know what is in the minds of Hindraf leaders at the moment. But one thing they must understand is that the meeting the PM had with Hindraf about a week ago was nothing but a plain eyewash.

It is better for Hindraf leaders to fight it out with Pakatan Rakyat and keep their dignity than to fall into BN's trap.

Eskay: The root cause of Waythamoorthy's sad situation is due to the backward race-based management of the current BN government. The only solution is to have a government that will take care of all Malaysians.

Malaysians will need to do our part, be wise and pray hard that the candidates we elect will help us achieve this. But first of all, we will need to get rid of our own race-based mentality or else we will continue be manipulated by the politicians.

Anonymous #19098644: Waytha needs to focus on getting as much of the Hindraf manifesto included in both the BN and Pakatan manifestoes as possible. He needs to work with and champion his cause through whichever party that comes to power.

The bottom line is helping to highlight and get the agenda of the dispossessed accepted as part of the mainstream agenda rather than screaming and railing against the cruel world. Live for your cause, live for your people, and live for your family.

Rolling Thunder: Waytha, don't dice with death again. Let the doctors nurse you back to health. Be up and about soon.

Hindraf still has some time left before GE13 to talk things over and clinch a deal with Pakatan or the newly-purified, brand-new Najib Razak of Umno-BN. Compromise is the key.

Fair Play: DAP leader Karpal Singh has given Hindraf leaders an honourable way out. Take it or leave it. It makes no difference after GE13 as Hindraf would remain irrelevant.

Tholu: Hindraf supporters and detractors alike do not wish to see Waytha risking his health over Indian issues in this country.

As much as we appreciate his resolution and selfless efforts to uplift the social, political and economic status of his community, we do not want him to do it at the expanse of his health.

Paul Warren: So, for those of you who think that Hindraf's demands are not race-based, but applicable to everyone, then what is so wrong with Pakatan's manifesto? It is supposed to apply to all Malaysians.

I don't need them to mention Indians specifically. And why is it necessary to have Indian MPs? Isn't a Malaysian MP supposed to serve his or her Malaysian constituents?

And why should all those in Pakatan, having served their party faithfully and diligently and now looking for to be appointed to a candidacy, step aside to anyone from Hindraf to contest in a seat of their choice?

Any candidate from Hindraf will be looked upon as only championing the Indian agenda. Why should a Malay or a Chinese vote for you, whether you wear the Pakatan badge or the BN badge?

MIC has been given nine parliamentary seats to contest. And you want seven! I suppose in your reckoning that is fair. If you insist, then forget this childish charade. Just go ahead, be a candidate and help BN win.

Fiat Justitia, Ruat Caelum: I am glad Waythamoorthy has ended his fast. I hope he has not damaged his health. I think Hindraf should reopen talks with Pakatan in good faith.

Those who advised Waythamoorthy to undertake this painful and dangerous fast should explain to Hindraf members the reasoning behind this. Indeed, this saga has harmed the party and the Indians.

Jiminy Qrikert: So Hindraf, what did Waytha achieve? Galvanise all Indians to go down to the streets to demand that Pakatan or BN sign the blueprint?

Convince all Indians to abstain from voting this GE13? Rally all Indians towards endorsing the Hindraf blueprint? Unite all Indians under the Hindraf banner? Or simply suffered for 22 days for nothing? Managed a meeting with Najib and nothing else?

Really, all Waytha achieved was to make Malaysians more resolute in rejecting sectarian and communal politics. And opened all Malaysians eyes to what Hindraf really is - just another opportunistic collection of wannbes who shamelessly adopt the BN strategy of divide and rule.

Sorry, Indians don't want to be ruled by Hindraf or MIC or any of the rest of the dozen mosquito Indian parties. Indians want Pakatan to take over Putrajaya alongside the Malays and Chinese who have come to their senses.

Black Mamba: Wathya should be grateful Malaysiakini gives him coverage on his hunger strike cause. The mainstream media totally ignore his plight and will probably give him a short mentioned when he dies, similar to what was accorded to private eye P Balasubramaniam.

Get well and fight together with Pakatan, you have proven your point. You have conviction for the disenfranchised Indian community. Right-thinking Malaysians who want the poor uneducated Indians to progress are with you.

Cogito Ergo Sum: Let common sense prevail. Only Pakatan leaders have shown concern. Your BN suitors want you to be disabled so that you will not be able to negotiate with your full faculties. Joining Pakatan does not mean abandoning the Indian cause.

You were heroes once. Be heroes again.
