While not naming anyone, the caretaker prime minister’s words were an obvious reference to former Umno Wanita deputy chief Kamilia Ibrahim (

), who was
sacked
from Umno after she chose to contest as an Independent for the
Kuala Kangsar
parliamentary seat.
“Why? Because they know that even if the individual is gone, the party will still be in power, (and) that the struggle can be continued.
“It has been proven in our history, that those who left the party, the people will abandon him (or her) as well,” he said.
Najib once again cited Umno founder Onn Jaafar to drive home his point, saying the rakyat had rejected Onn’s Parti Negara which the latter had formed after having left Umno in the 1950s.
The BN chief had used the same example during his speech in Kuala Penyu, Sabah three days ago when issuing a similar message to Beaufort incumbent MP Lajim Ukin, who had turned his back on Umno to become a Pakatan-friendly politican.
'The rest are unable to form a strong gov't'
Najib stressed that the party members must put the party first if they want to achieve their dreams and goals.
“The rest are unable to form a strong government. The opposition cannot do it, let alone the Independents,” he told the 2,000-strong crowd of BN supporters at a ‘1Malaysia people-gathering’ event.
He added that although the party positions are temporary, they must continue to uphold their values and dignity.
Hence, he complimented Kuala Kangsar Umno chief Ramly Zahari for remaining in the party, and who continues to support BN candidates even though he had not been fielded as a candidate.
It is noted that there is a three-corner fight in the Kuala Kangsar parliamentary seat in the upcoming general election. BN candidate Wan Mohamamd Khair-Il Anuar Wan Ahmad will be defending the seat against PAS’ Khalil Idham Lim Abdullah and Kamilia.
