Umno solely to be blamed for BN's dismal showing

YOURSAY 'Until now I am still waiting for Umno to admit that corruption, racism and unfairness were the main causes of their failure.'

Rais: MCA, Gerakan partly to blame for BN loss

your say Kamalappans: I feel Umno contributed 99 percent to the poor performance of MCA, Gerakan and MIC.

Perkasa leaders Zulkifli Noordin and Ibrahim Ali being fielded, the hijacking of MCA seats, former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad's racist rants, the cow condos, the ‘win at all cost' speeches, the throwing of money and food as gifts to voters, the arrogance, and much, much more.

Black Mamba: MCA and Gerakan are not to be blamed. It's Umno that has to take the full blame and the wrath of the citizens.

Umno's racist nature and actions have made it untenable to rule further. It is Umno thuggery that makes the rakyat hate them. Umno's corrupt ways have distanced the people. Umno's cronyism has separated the Malays.

Umno makes MCA, Gerakan and the rest of the 11 coalition parties subservient and have relegated them to footstools. To save Umno, it must go multiracial.

SusahKes: No Rais Yatim, voters rejected Gerakan and MCA as part of the larger rejection of Umno. This rejection didn't start recently; it goes all the way back from the time former home minister Hishammuddin Hussein raised the keris.

The rejection was compounded further by Najib keeping deadwoods like you in his cabinet - pompous and arrogant (who can forget "I've changed my mode"?).

A slew of other factors also contributed to the loss: 1Malaysia has no substance; corruption remains rife; Najib failed to fulfill his promise to find the late DAP aide Teoh Beng Hock's killers; Umno/MCA's mouthpiece aka Utusan Malaysia/The Star continue with impunity to treat voters as stupid; Najib's failure to rein in Mahathir/Perkasa.

And with expired politicians such as you who continue to humour us with clown acts, it looks like Umno hasn't learned its lessons yet.

Paul Warren: I have to agree with Rais. MCA and Gerakan showed no balls when Umno, Perkasa and Utusan went on a spree attacking the non-Malays, Christians, etc. Indirectly MCA and Gerakan were seen to be supporting what Umno said.

So, their supporters just gave up on them. Tell them Rais, tell them that they have to be seen to be taking on Umno as an equal rather than a subservient lackey.

Thana55: Umno screwed up big time. MCA and Gerakan are collateral damage. The trouble with BN leaders is that they do not analyse what really ails the parties and take the needed actions.

They do everything to create a perception that they are people-centric when they are not. All of them fell on their faces in GE13. The people are happy for that.

Dood: It's funny how Umno-BN doesn't realise that their extremism, racism, and their ‘tuan mentality' is the real cause for people abandoning the subservient (and useless) parties in their coalition.

Multi Racial: Until now I am still waiting for Umno to admit that corruption, racism and unfairness were the main causes of their failure.

Well, it is not MCA, Gerakan and MIC alone. All BN leaders are to be blamed for not standing up against their leaders when things had gone wrong.

BigH: Let's face the facts. BN lost because in the 21st century; their biggest component party still subscribes to defunct medieval ideas of political parties based on ethnic divisions - and stoking sentiments on this as well as promoting racial supremacy and 'special rights' of a particular ethnic group.

This will ensure the eventual death of BN in a few years as this thinking makes them irrelevant in the modern world. The 21st century voters have shown BN this.

Instead of blaming MCA and Gerakan, look at yourself and see what flaws you have - are you capable of leading a modern nation? Or are you sinking deeper into oblivion/debt as BN has done in the past five years?

Apache: The blame game has started. In the next GE, Umno should contest in all 222 parliamentary seats and 565 state seats throughout Malaysia.

AnakPuyu: Of course, Umno still wants MIC, MCA and Gerakan to be in the cabinet, otherwise who else could they shift the blame to? MIC, MCA and Gerakan, congratulations for continuing to be Umno punching bags.

KB Menon: Rais, do not look for scapegoats. The main problem lies with Umno, the Dr M factor and the obnoxious mainstream media, both TV and print. Look within and you will find the answer.

The servile behaviour of other main BN component parties contributed partly. As far as the rakyat are concerned, BN has lost its legitimacy to rule - we have a minority ruling the majority.

It is clear now that a flawed electoral system is allowing BN to continue to rule. The people are utterly and thoroughly dismayed with this situation.

Rku020: Democracy is a form of government in which all eligible citizens have an equal say in the decisions that affect their lives.

Democracy allows eligible citizens to participate equally - either directly or through elected representatives - in the development and creation of laws. It encompasses social, economic and cultural conditions that enable the free and equal practice of political self-determination.

Citizens are free to choose their representative. If a candidate is a scumbag, like many BN candidates are, they are rejected. That's democracy.

Trublumalaysian: Light travels faster than sound and that's why most people seem bright until you hear them speak.

Rais takes stupidity to a whole new level every time he speaks. It's like viewing a reality show on which BN ministers outdo one another as absolute morons and thus far, it seems like a damned tough fight.
