YOURSAY ‘Everyone knows that lack of integrity was a major reason the people rejected BN-Umno. But it refuses to acknowledge and take ownership of this.'
'Integrity shortfall behind eroding support for BN'
Cala: The regent of Perak, Raja Nazrin Shah, has been exceedingly polite by offering his panacea to the Umno-led BN regime that is declining by each day.
If Raja Nazrin sees the problem as integrity deficit, the rakyat sees the problem as several-fold larger. The sagging support received by Umno-BN in terms of popular votes is 47 percent, compared with Pakatan's 51.8 percent.
This is the lowest Umno-BN secured since Merdeka. In the rakyat's eyes, the Umno-BN regime is a kleptocratic regime.
If in doubt, look at the Port Klang Free Zone scandal, obscene profits of the independent power plants, negotiated tenders and so on.
Anonymous_3f89: Everybody knows that lack of integrity (issues of corruption, favouritism, cronyism, unjust and unfair practices, abuse of power, etc) was a major reason for the people to reject BN-Umno.
The only one that refused to acknowledge and take ownership of this is the perpetrator, BN-Umno itself.
Worse, instead of owning up to its faults, and driven by greed, it blames everything on the Chinese, with the evil intention of creating a racial divide between Malays and Chinese for the sole purpose of holding on to power.
Even to the extent of disregarding the danger of racial conflict andits impact on the country's peace and harmony and the overall well-being of the nation.
This is the extent of how wicked the current ruling government is and rightfully, it should have been voted out.
AnonymousA: Sometimes I feel that the best thing for some people is to say nothing at all. People may be fooled once, but not all the time. When we preach about integrity we have to ask ourselves whether we have any in the first place.
A nice speech is like a flower without fragrance. It's only fit for the bin. That is what I read in a Buddhist leaflet.
Psalm100:5: By the way, has anybody noticed that the examples of leaders with integrity mentioned are the first three prime ministers? And Dr Mahathir Mohamad was left out? That really says something.
Gggg: Not a single word about the integrity of GE13. I want to hear the views of his royal highness about the various allegations and how it should be addressed.
Hacks: Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi might want to ask Raja Nazrin to leave this country if he's not happy with the system. I would support Zahid if he dares to say it.
BeWay: While I fully endorsed your speech, it's your own integrity during the 2008 Perak state government crisis that makes me still suspicious of what kind of person you are in the first place.
Ar-ma-ged-don: Like the Chinese saying, "To eliminate the weed, you must dig out its root."
The root of corruption is BN. Thus, to eliminate corruption, we must weed BN out. There is no shortcut.
Bumiasli: His royal highness is trying to put a message through to BN and hopefully, they will be smart enough to pick it up.
Governing well is a matter of integrity and we hope to see such governance in Malaysia. Unfortunately, honesty and integrity seem to be bad words for today's government.
Disbeliever: Wow! Am I dreaming? Ampun Tuanku, beribu-ribu ampun, but is your statement a reality? I (and I believe many others) have high regards for royalty, for your father, the Sultan of Perak, for you, the regent.
But since the downfall of the legitimate state government in 2008, where the royal palace was alleged to have a hand in it, many of us have lost hope in the Perak royalty being able to take care of the rakyat.
We still continue to respect the Perak royalty out of courtesy. But deep inside we are hurt by the actions of Tuanku. And the scars of the Perak power grab remain etched in us.
We hope Tuanku's change of heart is for real and that, by God's grace, Tuanku's actions to put things right will become a reality. Ampun Tuanku.
FairGame: The rakyat still remembers what Pak Lah said: "Work with me, Don't work for me." But the message was misunderstood by the rakyat. The message was actually directed to the BN parties, especially Umno, with the sublime message: "We work hand in hand; you all scratch my back, I scratch your backs!" And the few high profile cases? Obviously, for show only.
Unspin: The regent can make 10 bad speeches in the past but when he makes one good speech, I am all mushy because I am hopeful for our country. Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and BN should follow the example of Raja Nazrin by working to win back the hearts of the people now, instead of moving further and further to the right.
Anonymous #66797900: The regent has hit the nail on the head and dared the present leaders to learn from the leaders before them. To simply attack him is being short-sighted. Let us tell him, and the rest, to honour their words.
There comes a time in a man's life when he sees that the rot has gone too far and if he and others do not speak out, it will be too late.
This realisation is what appears to have made him say what he did and he should be congratulated for it. Just simply attacking him for what his father or others did is most unfair.
The regent is the future ruler and by displaying such standards, he can help to check the rot and put the politicians on notice that not everything can be corrupted. They are not blind to what is going on, and are aware of the many forms of corruption and bribery.
Mengxiang: It was the ‘corruption tsunami' that caused the people to swing away from the BN. It (corruption) went from bad to worse to blatant and rampant and utterly mind boggling. Nearly a trillion ringgit in illicit outflow would be a good marker.
Armageddon: Everybody preaches about integrity and the need to do something about it. Raja Nazrin said the practise of integrity can be supported through enforcement of law that is free of fear and political interference.
The question is, who in the current government will really do something about it? Time to stop talking and act on it.
We demand to see a few well-known, corrupt VIPs taken to court today and not just before GE14.
