Student activist Muhammad Safwan Anang was set free today after posting bail of RM5,000, according to his wife, Mastura Abu Bakar.

NONE Mastura said Safwan ( in black shirt in photo )  was bailed out out by his younger brother at the Jalan Duta Court Complex at around 10.30am.

The Solidariti Mahasiswa Malaysia chief was charged under the Sedition Act 1948 on May 29, together with PKR vice-president Tian Chua, former Batu Berendam MP Tamrin Ghafar and social activists Haris Ibrahim and Hishamuddin Rais.

The Kuala Lumpur Session Court granted bail to all of them but Safwan had refused is as a sign of protest.

"He (Safwan) feels he can do more outside of jail compared to being behind bars," Mastura told Malaysiakini when contacted.

She said her husband will rest briefly at home before joining his fellow student activists in Putrajaya later today where they will be demonstrating in front of the Home Ministry after Friday prayers.

They are expected to present a memorandum to the ministry protesting the arrest of politicians and activists.
