Minister against increasing MACC powers
While the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has asked for additional powers to compel individuals suspected of graft to declare their assets, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nancy Shukri has objected on the basis that it could lead to abuse.

such powers
to be given to the MACC.
"This is my personal opinion.
"If the MACC is given such powers, even if there is no proof of corruption, there is a possibility that it would lead to abuse," she reportedly said.
MACC chief commissioner Abu Kassim Mohamed had previously explained that the initiative would have a positive impact on the government and enhance public confidence in the commission.
The MACC Special committee on corruption had therefore sought an amendment to Section 36 of the MACC Act 2009.
