The Selangor state government has announced that a commission will be formed to investigate the alleged electoral fraud and offences which had happened in the state during the last general election.

"The setting up of this commission is in line with the power given to the state government under Section 2(3)(d) of the Commission of Enquiry Act 1950," said Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim in a statement issued today.

"The state government is of the view that electoral abuse involves public interest, and this issue is stated in the act," he added.

NONE According to Khalid, a secretariat led by Sri Setia assemblyperson Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad ( left ) - who will be sworn-in as Selangor deputy speaker tomorrow - will act as the coordinator to ensure the smooth execution of the commission.

"The state government will announce that the panel members who will be appointed and the terms of reference of the commission soon.

"The state government is of the view that electoral abuse is a serious offence which can damage the nation's democracy and it is very important for the state government to investigate the allegations start from their root," he stressed.

Pakatan Rakyat has been accusing BN of having won the 13th general election on May 5 by cheating. A series of protest rallies dubbed 'Black 505' have been held nationwide to demand for the resignation of the top two Election Commission officials, as well as fresh elections for 30 parliamentary seats.

The next rally will be held this Saturday at Padang Merbok, Kuala Lumpur, although the police have since declared it illegal.
