Pakatan Rakyat filed a motion seeking to refer Simpang Renggam MP Liang Teck Meng to the House committee of rights and privileges yesterday evening.

NONE DAP's Jelutong MP Jeff Ooi filed the motion to Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia at 4pm yesterday with the support of other Pakatan representatives.

However, they have not received any response as yet from Pandikar regarding the motion.

Liang ( left ) incurred the ire of Pakatan MPs after he alleged Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim as having 20 foreign bank accounts, including in Israel while debating the royal address on Tuesday.

He claimed that the information of accounts were based on a Wikileaks cable, but Pakatan has since said that Wikileaks does not have any such entry.

Liang has stood by his allegations but Pakatan have accused him of hiding behind the immunity of the House.

Ooi reiterated Pakatan MPs’ statements yesterday that there is no entry available on Wikileaks detailing Anwar’s foreign bank accounts as alleged by Liang.

He said that Liang’s allegation was instead based on two anonymous blogs, both of which published the list of Anwar’s alleged foreign bank accounts earlier this year.

“The fake information was used in the House for the purpose of misleading and is deemed to be in contempt of the House,” Ooi said.

The motion was moved under Standing Order 36 (12), which states that any member who imputes statements to mislead the House is deemed to be in contempt of the House and may be referred to the privileges committee over the offence.

'Be mindful of past Gerakan leaders'

Ooi also urged Liang to be mindful of past Gerakan leaders when making such statements.

“Even if you are not very fond of Gerakan, you should remember the contribution of people like Lim Chong Eu (former Penang chief minister and Gerakan founder),” Ooi said.

Liang is the only Gerakan parliamentarian following the 13th general election.

“If Lim Chong Eu heard what Liang had said, he would turn in his grave,” Ooi added.

He urged Liang to do some right things for the people “before it is too late”.
