Is Rozali a magician who can turn air into water?

YOURSAY ‘Name me one lawyer in town who can earn RM33.4 million per annum, then I will concede that's a good pay compensation.'

Rozali deserves RM33.4mil payment, say shareholders

your say Well Thats Fantastic: Who started Puncak Niaga Holdings Bhd 20 years ago? He was directed to make the company by a certain doctor, who in turn stitched a monopoly deal between Syabas and federal/state governments that is now hidden behind the Official Secrets Act (OSA).

There is only one reason it is hidden and it's not because of national security.

Ar-ma-ged-don: RM91,508 per day in salary. A lot of poor fellows in Sabah only earn RM27.50 a day. Is Puncak Niaga Holdings Bhd (PNHB) executive chairperson Rozali Ismail a magician who can turn air into water?

Watchtower: Hello, we have to pay for water, and bear the brunt of having ‘teh tarik' instead of crystal clear water and often unexplained water cuts.

While it is legal to pay such a high salary and remuneration package - and the shareholders, of course, should be happy because of the mistake of the previous state government in giving the concession to this company - Syabas is still a public utility.

Now you are holding the people by their throats, which is akin to blackmailing the present government into having to pay an exorbitant price to buy back the company.

Caller: How did Selangor, and ultimately the people, end up having to pay so much to buy back the facilities that they owned in the first place?

Is privatisation to enrich some and to burden the people? If this privatisation never took place we wouldn't have to fork out so much.

SelangorKu: Ha-ha, a minority watchdog group - more likely they are hyenas or wolves in sheep's clothing. They are part of the pack who plundered Selangor's water resources.

What special skills does Rozali, who is a lawyer, have in managing water resources other than his expertise as an Umno crony?

Name me one lawyer in town who can earn RM33.4 million per annum, then I will concede that's a good pay compensation. Also, what was Rozali's last drawn salary as a lawyer? Watchdog, my foot.

Fair&Just: While the rakyat are slogging, toiling and working hard to put food on the table, these corrupt, evil and unscrupulous people are leading a decadent, opulent and obscene lifestyle.

What kind of corporate management and responsibility is the regime producing, condoning and privatising, which is more like piratisation.

Stories: How can almost coming so close to defaulting and having almost no liquidity amount to good performance? This is a failure on a large scale.

Onyourtoes: Water is an essential commodity. These minority shareholders must understand how profits and dividends are derived from this company.

Was there collusion between this company and the regulator (the government)? Were there price discrimination, price manipulation and profiteering because of its monopoly power?

During Ramadan season, we even control the price of chicken sold by hawkers. So what is so unusual about price and profit cap? Since you are so happy with the profits and dividends, may be it is time to "nationalise" some of these undeserved gains.

In the United States, public utilities have their profits capped at predetermined return of investment (ROI). How much did this company get? Remember we must also factor in all the grants and subsidies provided by the government. So please don't talk crap with us here.

Ksn: Yes, granted that this minority watchdog group is right, can we, the public, have Rozali's resume and a list of the wonderful things he has done for this organisation from the time he took control?

The opinion expressed by the NGO is only as good as anyone on our streets. In other words, justification based on performance - the benefits the organisation received which justifies this payment of RM33 million in remuneration.

That is a fair thing to ask, right, folks?

Anonymous_5fb: How convenient, the Puncak Niaga Minority Shareholders Watchdog Group was only formed last Friday. Just so to approve such exorbitant remuneration package to the Puncak Niaga CEO?

Come on, you have just created a new record in corporate history as the dumbest minority shareholders that the corporate world ever had.

Lim Chong Leong: Plant a few clowns and dogs in your shareholders meeting and you can get away with a multi-million dollar salary. That is 1Malaysian crony business. Meantime, there is water shortages burst pipes and high water charges.

MockingYou: Privatisation is nothing but transferring assets (the rakyat's) entrusted to the government of the day to private companies A, B, C and D. So what is so great about Rozali?

Absalom: As a layperson, I keep wondering why the water supply was even privatised in the first place.

In actual fact, after the concessions, the government still forked out huge amounts (by some estimates over RM3 billion) to the concessionaires while giving them the right to increase tariffs.

If such privatised entities had created some value by being able to stand on its own feet without passing the burden of financing on the government and without increasing tariffs, it is logical to think that such privatisation has some rationale and benefits the people.

Otherwise, it seems like one of those rent-seeking exercises which ultimately burden the people.

So perhaps someone can explain (to us laypersons) what is it that Rozali has done that deserves RM33.4 million in remuneration, which is RM2.8 million a month or RM93,000 per day.

Not Convinced: As American intellectual Noam Chomsky would say: This is a case of privitising profits and socialising losses.
