Leave no stone unturned in Sanjeevan probe

YOURSAY 'The failure of the police gives rise to public suspicion on police/gov't links with criminals. What's next? Political assassinations?'

Who wants to assassinate Sanjeevan?

your say Pemerhati: Here's an interesting excerpt from BBC's investigative report by Jonathan Kent about Malaysia's underworld and its close links with the country's politicians and the police.

This is Kent's conversation with one of the underworld's members called Ah Hing:

Ah Hing makes no bones about his world and his life.

"I admit that I am a bad guy, and that I'm a gangster," he said. "So who runs your world?" I asked - to which he gave a simple reply:

"The government. If the government doesn't want to be a bit lenient with us and if they are strict about everything, then there's no way that I can make a living. There's no work," Ah Hing said.

SP Manan: Mywatch chief R Seri Sanjeevan said that he had received a call allegedly from a police officer from the Jempol police station, claiming that some gangs were ready to "kill" him.

The police officer who had made this call should be immediately investigated as he should be able to shed some light.

What is going on in this country? Are the police working in cahoots with the mafia and the bandits?

IGP Khalid Abu Bakar, please stop the rot now.

Goblok: We keep getting people shot by these hired killers. Is there a connection between the police and these killers? Any of these professional assassins arrested?

The failure of the police on this gives rise to public suspicion about police/government links with criminals. What's next? Political assassinations?

Old Timer: And the police say we don't need the IPCMC (Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission). Or is this the reason why they don't need it?

Louis: This reminds me of the Medellin drug cartel. Those crooks would not hesitate to kill anyone who stood in their way.

If the police are really in league with drug lords, only God can help us poor souls.

MacMac: Malaysia is falling into the same category as Mexico with rogue cops killing innocent whistleblowers.

Cantabrigian: Trigger-happy police officers are administering street justice while the rakyat are left confused on what is actually happening to this country post-GE13.

Premier Najib Abdul Razak is silent like a hibernating polar bear while Malaysia is rotting like never before.

Senior: The brotherhood of the men in blue protects itself, not the rakyat. So if their extra income is threatened, what do you expect? A royal commission of inquiry (RCI)?

No use. See what happened to all the recommendations of previous RCIs - including on the IPCMC.

Aries46: Usually crimes of this nature involving the underworld, thugs and hired assassins, are widely reported but rarely have the perpetrators been arrested or brought to justice. This gives rise to negative perceptions of the enforcement authorities.

There maybe a few reasons for this sorry situation including incompetence or collusion of the enforcement authorities or even suppression of evidence or cover-ups.

In the case of Sanjeevan, there is evidence to the fact that rogue police officers may be behind the assassination attempt as mooted by former IGP Musa Hassan and PKR director of strategy Rafizi Ramli.

As to Home Minister Zahid Hamidi's indecent haste to clear the police from involvement, it is premature and his motive is questionable.

This is a classic case where the criminals involved must be nailed or otherwise it will add to the negative perception of the enforcement authorities.

Paul Warren: Well, the police's modus operandi is always to cover up any wrongdoing on their part. Like when N Dhamendran died in custody, their first explanation was that it was due to some natural causes.

They took a long time to suspend anyone. And even then only after word got out that Dhamendran had over 40 lacerations and marks that could not possibly be due to illness or disease. But then, that is the police.

An Old Malaysian: The RCI recommended the IPCMC be activated as soon as possible. Now, we have many Umno-BN ministers saying this and that, to justify not forming the IPCMC.

The IPCMC is a police oversight body first proposed by a RCI in 2005 to improve the police. However, the proposal was rejected by the police, and later watered it was down to the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC), which lacks prosecution powers.

The RCI report had noted that society could not rely on the internal mechanics of the police force and an oversight body would therefore be "profoundly important" in the organisation's governance.

The cry for the formation of the IPCMC is now getting louder and all Malaysians must support this call.

P Dev Anand Pillai: Dear friends, let's get the facts straight, whilst the criminals are running loose, what did we, the people of this country, do when we had the opportunity?

A good majority voted for the same federal government again. With 88 seats for themselves, Umno is of the view it knows what is best for Malaysia, whether you like it or not.

People, we live in a society where if one were given RM50-RM1,000, we will turn the other way if a woman is being raped as long as it is not one of our own. We vote for the administration which make our kids eat in toilets.

So don't blame the police, blame ourselves. We can't simply be happy with Penang, Selangor and Kelantan, we have to change the federal government or else, this is what we would have to live with.

Franklyspeaking: The rot is from the top. Our political leaders have been embroiled in corruption, murders and scandals. They are far from being moral. So what can you expect from the police?

The fruit doesn't fall too far from the tree.
