DAP’s Seputeh MP Teresa Kok has urged the police to stop following a strict interpretation of the law in their conduct and instead start using common sense.

NONE She was referring to the inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar’s (IGP) statement recently that there is nothing wrong with the police questioning school children from SK Seri Pristana without the parents’ consent.

Khalid also defended the authorities’ arrest of national laureate A Samad Said in the wee hours of the morning, claiming that there was nothing wrong for the police to do so.

NONE But Kok said that Khalid ( right ) defending his own men by relying on the technicalities of the law was “futile”.

“My reply and reminder to him again is, don’t just talk about law but apply them with common sense,” Kok said a statement today.

“Even if the law does not say so, it should be obvious that parents should be around (for the school children). This is plain enough to all,” she added.

“As the nation’s top cop, the IGP should give good guidance and public image to the police force,” she said.

She urged Khalid to retract his statement and also offer an apology to the pupils’ parents.
