The ceiling of a mosque in Kuala Nerus, Terengganu collapsed early this morning, the second time such an incident had occurred in five months.

According to Harakah Daily , the ceiling of the Kampung Tebauk mosque in Bukit Tunggal gave way at 4am this morning. No injuries were reported.

According to Bernama , the incident affected about 40 percent of the building, which was completed just two years ago with a cost of about RM6 million.

NONE Contacted for comments, Kuala Terengganu MP Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah said he was dismayed by the string of public infrastructure failures in the state.

"The construction of (public funded) buildings in Terengganu were not subject to proper professional consultation and supervision," lamented Raja Kamarul, who was an architect before joining politics.

Terengganu has often been in the headlines for questionable safety standards concerning public infrastructure.

The last disaster happened in May, when the roof of the Masjid Binjai Kertas in Hulu Terengganu collapsed.

But the best known incident was the roof collapse at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin stadium in Gong Badak.

The stadium, in which Raja Kamarul's firm was involved in, saw its roof collapsing in 2009 and again in February.

Raja Kamarul had told the Dewan Rakyat in July that the contractors who initially constructed the roof and the contractors who repaired it, were inexperienced and were not registered with the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB).
