SG LIMAU The Sungai Limau by-election is the best opportunity for the Chinese to prove that they support BN, says Kedah Mentri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir.

Mukhriz, who reportedly refused to help the Chinese after the community voted against BN in the May 5 general election, stressed that the Chinese are the major contributor in the by-election.

There are only about 1,800 Chinese registered voters in the Malay-dominated state seat.

“If we can win more than half of the Chinese vote, we can wrest back the seat,” he told a press conference at BN operations centre in Kampung Sungai Limau Dalam today.

Asked about his refusal to give allocations to Chinese schools, Mukhriz said it was up to the community’s sincerity.

'PAS had the same approach to Chinese schools'

“I don’t need people telling me that you must help us or else... that kind of thing doesn’t go so well with me.

“So if you are sincere (about) how we support each other, then I’m more than happy to look at all the matters.”

Mukhriz also claimed that  the previous state administration run by PAS also had a similar approach on allocations for Chinese schools.

“So I think it’s up them (the Chinese) how to interpret it,” he said.

“I’m very open, they should come and see me and talk about it on an equal basis,” Mukhriz added.

Mukhriz has been reported to have said that the state government would not entertain any request from Chinese schools in Kedah.

Pointing out that the Malays are the majority in Kedah, the menteri besar said he could not neglect those who supported the BN government.
