YOURSAY 'Adnan thinks his wife, who owns several properties including a penthouse, is a good gauge of how ordinary Malaysians think.'
Ku Nan: Even my wife not happy with assessment hike
Amalgam:
Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, we don't care whether your wife is unhappy or not over the assessment tax hike.
We resent you and the appointed Kuala Lumpur mayor for deciding on the tax hike without consulting us through our elected representatives. We agree that it has been a long time since an increase of the tax was imposed, but we object to such a steep hike.
What are you trying to do if not to take it out on the KLites? And we object to the arrogant manner this was done and the sneakiness of having our representatives sign the Official Secrets Act (OSA) pledge before you had a meeting with them.
To quote you, "the federal government is giving us sufficient funds, but we'd rather raise most of our own funds."
Excuse me, don't use us, KL residents, to raise funds for you - and if that's to be the case, let us at least vote for our own mayor and FT minister to represent us.
The arrogance you have to say you can legally increase the tax to the maximum rate of 35 percent rate, but will not do it - don't expect us to kowtow to you for that, we will fight you instead.
Anonymous #85701391: Adnan, the tax increase of your wife's penthouse, even based on RM117,000 annual rental rate, is just loose change for you.
Minister, tell the truth, the Umno-BN government is running out of money. There is no money to fund infrastructure works to upgrade links to cronies' development projects in Kuala Lumpur.
So, you milk more money from KLites to fund these works and also for another round of contracts to beautify this and that, maybe including Sungai Klang/Gombak as well.
The last round to beautify Sungai Klang/Gombak did not work. Contracts were given out and money gone, but the beautification never got off the ground. Even the lights in the middle of the river failed to work.
Yes, KLites remember all this although the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is sleeping. You see, minister, KLites do have good memory.
James1067: Millions of ringgit were spent by an entourage led by PM's wife Rosmah Mansor to Qatar. Indeed, hard-earned money spent without batting an eyelid. The money could have been channeled to the needy.
Here the rakyat are told there is insufficient funds and they should cough out more money for the city's coffers.
Adnan, to pay the extra money is chicken feed for you and your wife. Have a heart, tell your colleagues to stop wasting money by approving unnecessary expenditure so that the savings can be used to cushion the economic impact on the poor.
Hold Awam Accountable: Adnan thinks his wife, who owns several properties including a penthouse, is a good gauge of how ordinary Malaysians think and feel about government policy.
I really hope he finds the time to talk to other Malaysians who are feeling the full weight of the rate increase.
Anonymous #25558299: We know that all these Umno ministers' wives own many properties, not only in KL but also overseas. Please raise the assessments for the Umno politicians' wives, leave out the others.
Lin Wenquan: The millions of KLites who own houses don't give two hoots to Adnan wife's whining over the hike issue for all we care.
The value of older properties will rise according to market demand, especially when new house are priced beyond the reach of the ordinary working Joe and Jane, who are without awfully rich parents as part-sponsors.
There are many retirees and pensioners who reside in their own homes or may have one or have an extra unit to supplement their only source of income after years of slogging. They are not speculators, buying cheap and selling dear.
The fact that their properties have risen in value is beyond their control as this is market forces at work.
Neither are they tempted to sell and reap an indecent profit because the asking prices for new houses are far too exorbitant to even consider.
So it is really paper value for these ordinary senior citizens that their property is now being priced so high. Is this the caring government that it claims to be?
Not Smart: When the PM's wife wanted to go to Qatar using the private jet, it was quickly approved by the government.
Now the FT minister says his wife is also fuming over the assessment tax hike and he decides to review the rates.
The similarities of these two leaders are that they listen to their wives more (only two votes) rather than the thousands of other Malaysians.
Vijay47: Adnan, I am definitely not happy with you. And I am not even your wife. Thank God for little mercies.
For DBKL, it's pay up and don't ask questions
