PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has dismissed a news report that he will replace Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

Dismissing it as mere speculation, he told reporters that he did not meet Khalid last week to discuss the latter’s resignation.

“We meet every week... the latest was last Friday.," he said, adding the meeting would either be at his home or office.

On being asked if there had been discussions on him taking over, Anwar said had been general discussions on Selangor and Pakatan Rakyat.

To questions whether a state seat would be vacated to make way for him to contest, Anwar jokingly said asked the reporter to suggest a seat.

He was responding to a report today by the news portal The Star Online , that Khalid ( right ) had agreed to step down to make way for him.

The Star had suggested that Khalid may make way as early as Wednesday for Anwar to contest for a state seat where a by-election is expected to be called.

PKR has 14 seats compared to 15 each by the DAP and PAS following the May 5th general election.

Party secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail also confirmed that Abdul Khalid will remain the MB.

“Nothing will happen on Wednesday . Khalid will continue as MB,” he said, adding that he had briefed Anwar earlier following The Star Online’s report.
