PKR de factor leader Anwar Ibrahim apparently has his sights on the Selangor Menteri Besar post to have access to the Rulers’ Council as well as other influential quarters, his former ally Chandra Muzaffar said.

In an interview with Berita Harian Ahad today, he said that this would be Anwar's tactic to get in the good books of the palace.

“I feel Anwar's ( left ) main aim is not to be MB, but he has other goals. This is his strategy to win Putrajaya.

“He will use this to prove to Malaysians that he is an efficient and competent MB, who is more effective than the previous MB, and he will use this to 'brag' and influence the people.

“He will also try to get close to other MB's to gain support...He will be able to mix with the public more easily and more importantly, be closer to the (Selangor sultan) and Malay rulers through the Rulers' Council,” he said.

 

Chandra, who was once PKR deputy president before parting ways with the Opposition coalition, said that PKR's move to trigger a by-election just so Anwar can contest is “unacceptable” and betrays the people's trust.

 

Incumbent representative Lee Chin Cheh vacated the seat last week, triggering a by-election which must be called within six months.

 

PKR admitted it was a “tactical” move, purportedly to strengthen Selangor Pakatan Rakyat government in order to stave off an anticipated BN assault to win back the state in the next general election.

However, another of Anwar's former allies, now Perkasa vice president Zulkifli Noordin, said that the so-called Kajang Move is to distract from the government's appeal against Anwar's sodomy charge acquittal on Feb 11-13.

 

“The risk of imprisonment the destruction of his dream to be the nation's seventh prime minister will actually come true. At 67, he cannot accept long-term imprisonment so he will take any short-cut available,” he was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia 's Sunday edition Mingguan Malaysia .

Zulkifli's views are identical to that of Awang Selamat - a psuedonym used collectively by the paper's editors in the Sunday column.

In the editorial today, Awang said the Kajang Move is actually a move to “sodomise everything”.

 

He said that the incumbent Kajang representative Lee Chin Cheh ( right ) who vacated his seat to trigger the by-election should be probed for corruption, seeing PKR's already “rotten reputation”.

“If this is not done, then it is feared that other elected representatives will vacate their seats on a whim.

“I worry that this will allow the all-out buggering of democracy through deviant politics driven by lust for power,” he said, playing on terms heavily used in Anwar's lengthy sodomy trial.

“Will everything be sodomised - people, systems and values? Keeping silent on the matter will mean we are colluding and allowing ourselves to be victims,” he stressed.
