Ministers, stand up and be counted like Leiking
YOURSAY ‘Jakim must have the moral courage to show evidence for its accusations.’
Prove Christians tricking Muslims, Jakim told
Unafraid: At least there is a righteous and courageous MP, Darell Leiking of Penampang in Sabah, who dares to speak up in the interest of his own people.
The majority of the others are either bought or bullied to the point of complete silence. What a shame. It is not even about religion here. It's about defending your honour and dignity.
When other people insult you, trample on you and call you all kinds of names, only cowards and those with no sense of worth keep quiet.
But here is one MP who dares stand up and be counted. Bravo to you. Lies after lies are indiscriminately spread around and deception is blatantly used by the other side to instil fear among the Muslims.
It is high time that more ministers in Sabah (and in the cabinet) stand up and be counted for the sake of truth and righteousness. Are there not any left?
Fairnsquare: Jakim (Department of Islamic Development) must give an example of Muslims being misled and converted. If not, its sermon must be viewed as seditious. With all due respect to Najib, he should be talking about tolerance and understanding among all religious groups.
Is this too much to expect from a leader of the rakyat? We hope that our Muslim brothers will see the so-called threats against Islam as a political manoeuvre to divide the rakyat and plunder the country's wealth.
The real threat is corruption and racism that is destroying the country. ‘Divide and rule’ was introduced by the colonialists, and now it is still being practised by some politicians after Merdeka.
This must stop. Will the PM stand up and save the country and guide it back to the good old days of love and tolerance among all races?
Cry, My Beloved Country: When did Jakim ever have the moral courage to provide evidence for its accusations?
It is simply a law unto itself. It may be given police powers shortly, enabling it to invade any space and for whatever reason. As for the premier, he has slipped into a deafening silence.
Mohan53: Jakim is making Islam look like a religion everyone else should fear.
This would of course create division between Muslims and non-Muslims but that is the objective of Umno, which dreads losing political power.
If PM Najib Abdul Razak is genuine in wanting peace and harmony, he should immediately conduct an unbiased investigation of Jakim's actions.
The statements in their sermons are creating havoc in the minds of ordinary Muslims to the point where if Christians react, there would be turmoil. Fortunately, there has been calm and patience among the non-Muslims, in particular the Christians.
Jakim had better not push beyond the limits and Umno is to be blamed together with its proxies in Perkasa, Isma (Malaysian Muslim Solidarity) and other so-called protectors of the Malay-Muslim majority.
Middle Path: PKR’s Leiking, you are young and new to this political arena. Already, you are proving yourself to be much more concerned with the people you are representing and daring to speak up.
Already, you are embarrassing the well-fed politicians whose mouths are too full to speak. Shame on some of the seasoned politicians from East Malaysia.
Oriole: Non-Muslims should thank Jakim for showing them exactly how useless the BN non-Muslim MPs are when they are confronted with the Umno Islamisation drive.
If any non-Muslim believed their interests would be represented, this case is going to show you why that thinking is extremely flawed. These fellows are terrified to speak up even for themselves, let alone for others.
This is an extremely timely indication of the BN cowards who put themselves forward professing to be representatives of the people.
Heavenly King: The two resource-rich states in Borneo have a score to settle with the federal government - on oil royalties, ICs (identity cards) issued to illegals, attacks on Christians and Christianity, imposition of Islamic rules and laws, rape of their women and girls, rape of their timber and ancestral lands, dividing their people with crooked and subversive doctrines, etc.
The longer this drags on, the more they lose.
Dzulkefly Ahmad: Sabahans should demonstrate and compel BN to come out with a clear stand on this matter.
Onyourtoes: Jakim said the “Quran reminds them to be vigilant against the machinations of Jews and Christians out to deceive them”. So how, is it true that this is stated in the Quran?
I am not too sure we can argue much if indeed it is stated in the Quran. But if it is not, or if it is stated in a particular context or if there are other verses in the Quran which negate or dilute this particular verse, then it is definitely a machination on the part of Jakim to plant the seeds of discord in the country.
Why are all the Islamic scholars, particularly those from PAS and universities, so quiet? It is time for them to explain the truth of this matter.
It is really hard to fathom a department in charge of religion to be doing such an "unholy" thing if indeed they are indulging in such a machination.
I have never heard from the pulpit, a sermon or a speech of a Christian elder or leader that talked ill of other religions except to pray for good sense to prevail.
MacMac: Darell Leiking, it’s appreciated that you had the scrotal gumption to bring up this issue. What about the rest of Sabah and Sarawak MPs?
