Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim being sentenced to a jail term by the Malaysian courts over the Sodomy II case just a matter of time, PKR strategist Rafizi Ramli said today.

Speaking at the Pakatan Rakyat convention in Shah Alam this morning, Rafizi said so in response to those who blamed his orchestration of the Kajang move as the reason for Anwar's conviction at the appellate court yesterday.

"Mark my words, Anwar being jailed was just a matter of time. Don't ever expect this cruel government to act kindly towards him," Rafizi said.

He also said that he was under no illusions that he could escape court punishment from the slew of court cases that Rafizi himself is facing.

Rafizi went on to dub Anwar's conviction yesterday as the "Umno move".

"That is the Umno move. So the question now is what will be our next move? Will we surrender? No," he said in an impassionate speech.

Many routes to Putrajaya

"The road from Kajang to Putrajaya has many routes. If they block the highway, we will take the village roads. If that is blocked, we will walk.

"If we can't do that, we will take a helicopter and go to Kajang," Rafizi said, referring to Anwar's disqualification as a candidate for the Kajang by election.

"They can block a road, but for every one of them we will find 10 alternative roads to get where we want to get."

Rafizi said that though he was not surprised with the conviction yesterday, he was saddened to see "how cheap the dignity of our judges has become".

"In this country, stealing a chicken is a bigger crime than to be corrupted," he added.
